A dying old man who has a small fortune would want nothing more than to create happiness and memories for those he love and will leave behind. If buying you an expensive Rolex will give him that happiness, then allow him to do so.
As many have said, go together and try on a few models. Let him decide which is the best for you. |

Kobayashi so sorry!!
I hope that your uncle will be comfortable in his last days - and spend as much time as you can with him. It sounds like you idolize him.
Have him pick the watch that he thinks you would be fond of wearing. I donīt have any grandfather, or grandmother, but if I have I will do the same thing other members said already, let he choose one for you. But think in 2 very good things! 1- I donīt know if you believe or not in GOD, but if you believe he will stay together with a marvellous, powerful, peace MAN. 2- He will rest in peace, without pain!! Let us what you or you uncle decided. IF I can choose, i will choose a BLNR I donīt know why, but I dream about this watch 3 days alread! Anyway he will REST IN PEACE!!

BTW - if he really means this much to you and it will be one of the last memories together, consider hiring a photographer for a few hours to better capture the moment. You won't have a chance to redo this and pics/video will allow you to revisit much more accurately than just a memory.

You deserve the best in his eyes. That's what he wants for you. For being a person that is always there for him.

Let me start off by saying this is a great thread, I really appreciate you sharing part of your life with us.
Next, you are truly a good person. A lot of folks would have a hidden agenda, you do not. The next few months will fly by, do as much as you can with your uncle, even small things like having dinner with him will be very memorable. Sitting and watching a football game, baseball game, or just the Discover Channel with him - do these things b/c you will not get the chance to ever have those times back. Above all else, talk with him, write things down, record them, the stories he has are priceless and can never be told the way he tells them again. As far as the watch is concerned, that of course is secondary, and there are some great recommendations in previous posts (hiring a photographer, letting him pick out the watch, etc...). I think you'll do what your heart says, pick something you've always wanted, and wear it with great love... I'm truly sorry you, and your uncle, are having to go through this. Best Regards, J. |

He and you both sound so kind. He is going to WANT you to choose. Your choice is what will make him happy. At his age and stage he doesn't need the pressure to choose - just wants to see your pleasure in your new watch. Let him see this and as well as your gratitude. Wear it with pride and please share some pics!
