Jimmy
Since you asked, this is how I did it. I have just purchased my first pre-owned Rolex (3 days ago) and I am loving it. Of course, it is not a $10000 + Daytona,it is a $4000 Submariner. I have always wanted one but never thought I could afford one. When I was a kid,my dream car was a Porsche 911, but I convinced myself I can settle for less...944 turbo,944,or a 356 Speedster replica, anything as long as it is a Porsche. After I got purchased a 944, my next goal was to get a Harley, and I bought a used Sportser. Then, I thought I realized I liked watches a lot, so one day I thought I would get a Rolex, which I did few days ago. All the brands above are very expensive brand new, but I managed to buy a product from each one of them. Assuming your BMW is a brand new one, it cost you around $40,000, correct? Ok, a used 944 Turbo can cost anywhere between $7,000- $15,000 with an average of $9,000. A used Sportster costs around $5000 and a used Submariner Rolex is about $4000. So,all together less than $20,000. I have the toys I want and I am happy. I know, you want the BEST from each one of them BUT when you can not have everything, you can settle for less/used. This doesn't mean you are settling for less, just being realsitic with your budget. If you can afford a BMW and a boat and make around $140,000, then you can DEFINITELY afford a used Rolex. Of course, this depends on how much your regular bills are. Pictures attached from my home, speedster replica (sold last year) Harley, and Rolex. Since you asked..... |

I feel sorry for you making only 140k plus a year and still can't afford a 10k watch.
Some of us namely JJ, Felly..and Oscar...and John...and Richard and and and... .........the list goes on and on........ We are.all making 3-4 million dollars a year.. and most importantly we do not have any obligations ...so our disposable income is totally unlimited. Sorry...I got to run...my wife says ...the roof of our trailor is leaking (?) |

See what that green radiation does to ya? In response to the OP's query on who the heck can afford these $10K+ timepieces.... I see you have a boat, which I've read is defined as "A hole in the water into which one pours money." and kids. I don't have a boat. I don't have children. Just the wife and me. That's probably the reason I can afford these exquisite timepieces. Oh, if I had kids, I would be wearing a Casio and not think about participating in this forum, as my DNA copies running around would be my number one consideration. But fate dealt me this hand, so I just have to make the best of it and drown my sorrows in another Rolex, this time, maybe a Day-Date with roman numerals and a white or pyramid dial. Last year, I left the company I grinded away for 30 years and went out on my own. Tripled my income and went from a Seiko Kinetic to Rolexes. That helped too. |

I don't earn as much as you nor do I own a BMW, boat, Harley, except I have a roof over my wife and children ... so, I am in the middle class group, but clean People who buy luxury goods tend to show off their purchase - i.e., those who buy Rolexes are no different to those who buy a BMW or Porsche ... to show off I bought my first Rolex after the age of 40 using my hard earned money because I was impressed with a vintage Sub I inherited that is now 27 years old but still looks good (classical), maintains its value and keeps good time. I cannot afford or justify buying a BMW because it's higher maintenance - petrol, annual tax & insurance, service, repairs, washing, etc. - than my Rolex, and would be worth less than half the purchase price in 7 years ... if not problematic with escalating repair costs? If you have joined the TRF, are you not curious or thinking about buying a Rolex yourself? |

Who cares what you make. Moreover, who cares what you have, just as long as YOU are happy. I can tell you one thing: All of us on this forum are pretty damn happy about our Rolex's!!!

The very last, deepest, darkest, just the thought of it annoys reason I bought my Rolex was to show it off... Why? We're not in middle school any more.

Almost all vintage racing Porsches had Mobil Pegasus dacals. I was trying to recreate that look. About the Harley, you are correct,it is 883.
I do not want to be misunderstood here. I am NOT trying to show off by posting pictures . All I am saying is,you can have some toys without braking the bank and still have fun. I use myself as an example. |

IMO, it doesn't have anything to do with what you make, but what you do with what you make and how wise your are with it.
I am 53 years of age and just purchased my first Rolex. I wanted one 25 years ago, but prudence prevailed. Patience brings good things and that without remorse. I wish you well.

Who are you people ?
Glad to hear you pull in 140k. Oh wait you said a year ? sorry that is my quarterly net gain. Time pieces such as Rolex are a subtle statement that says in my world You have arrived. I once heard that you wear a Timex to get somewhere on time. You wear a Rolex because you don't have to. It is what it is.
Cheers eh. |

You can't afford a Rolex because you have yet to achieve financial freedom. I bet your house, BMW, Harley, boat and other assets (I mean liabilities) are still not fully paid for. All these luxuries and even necessities will be taken away from you when you lose your job.
Once all your luxury items and necessities are fully paid for and you have cash invested and working hard for you, you don't need to worry about losing your job. That is the time when you are ready to buy a Daytona.

On the toy thing, people have been investing properly in collectable cars /bikes and driving their money for years. Rolex is a high end passion as collectable cars are and in most cases on either front, "You Can Drive or Wear Your Money" Stop hemming and hawing. Wear your money proud, or go on Dreaming Rolex. Harley riding and wearing a nice Daytona / Sub will do wonders for your self esteem. Or really man, just alow you to enjoy all your hard work. Look at it this way, how many Toys can you actually add to your Portfolio?? huh? Best regards to you.... |

I've never understood why someone would boast to complete strangers about their salary and their material possessions. They're puffing for sure or maybe they're just 14.....
