Your money so you decide if it's worth the premium. For me I will not, unless it is a discontinued model.

I wouldn't. But as they say, "It's your money, use it when you need it" 877-CASHNOW.

If you like it, go for it. A lot of people have spent a great deal of time developing relationships at ADs for years, bought tons of pieces and then were able to by retail. And if you did pay and decided you don’t like, you wouldn’t loose an arm or leg. IMO, it would be worth it, if you got the cash, I would pay up for the white dial in your situation. Not the black dial, I don’t find it unique enough but that is just my preference. Or you can add 8/9k more and get a solid gold piece. IMO those are your two options.

Bought a 116523 Panda for $12,000 brand new out the door.

Paying $6k over list for steel is crazy when you can pay $6 under list for a TT.

If it weren’t for the oversized number hour markers I’d be all over this reference also. Or is there another version?

No, I'd use my 30% discount and buy this for a little under €18k.

I hope people are going to used dealers and actually trying this watch on so they see the watch and not just the hype and internet myth. It is a cool piece but it's just a watch and worth it's retail, maybe a little more if you are a huge fan, but not a huge premium.

Rolex didn't even put the famed Panda dials on it, they have reserved them strictly for the PM pieces, just so you know not to let Rolex "play" you too much.

This is really great advice. In my personal experience, it didn't change my opinion of the watches but it definitely made me realize that they just aren't worth $18k and that was a year ago. I was offered a mint black one for $15.5k and I still thought it was too much. If paying that much I would want my name on the card. If the production run would be short then I would change my opinion, but these will most likely be in production past 2026. Perhaps Rolex releases an upgraded movement sometime during its run but I don't see another generation before then.

I wouldn’t do it. But for one data point, I’m seeing the white one at a major grey mkt dealer for $21k.

If I loved it and money was not an issue, I might be tempted to do it. I would probably not want to tell anyone I did it, and certainly not on a dedicated Rolex forum :)

Paying 18K for Daytona Steel 116500LN

Rolex recently told ADs that 116500 cannot be sold to a first time buyer, must have purchased at least 3 other references. So if you really want one and don’t have prior relationship with your AD, good luck. At a lot of places, the “list” is a fluke.

The alternative is to go in and slap down $80k+ worth of Rolex, then you’ll get one at list price, maybe wait a few weeks (but places like Shreve always keep one in the back safe for cases like this). . Just the way it is now.

So now there is a retail price set by Rolex and additional buying restrictions being implemented by Rolex....lol wow....

I can agree with this. I got mine in under 3 months.

It is B.S.

I bought my wife a 26 mm datejust SS. $6,500. I waited on the list for about 6 months and they sold me a black dial 116500.

didn't bother to read everyone else's responses but heres my thought. If you buy it for the premium you can still wait on your AD's list. Someday when it does come in buy that one and then sell one of the two to recoup as much of the premium as you can. That's win win to me

I like the Daytona and would pay list or a little above (10% or so), but would not be willing to pay what the gray market is asking.

Rolex has used the SS Daytona as a reward since about~1980. Always elusive, I remember my AD hinting the more you buy the better chance of getting one...way back then.
The SS Daytona is the PM of the Daytona line.

I forgot to mention I paid over retail for my white dial about 8-9 months ago. Price has gone up a few thousand since then, but at the time I thought I was crazy.

I'd buy a two-tone Daytona at retail way before I'd ever pay the premium for a steel one.

Re the premium I thought worse case it goes back to list plus probably a price hike or two depending on timeline. Best case they carry on upwards especially if supply reduces further.

As to liking it for design or it's scarcity for me it's the design. I don't have the same desire for any of the other scarce models

I like the 116519 ln wg too but wanted to see one which is agin not possible in london

So then all these Rolex via AD rules stand to reason until they make their real market moves. All ADs will have different conditions depending on their relationship with Rolex and how they have behaved or how much they are afraid.

That’s a great point and I’ve wondered whether Rolex has different sets of rules for ADs who have not “behaved.”

I wouldn't say it is Rolex who impose the different rules, they have general ones, rather it is the individual AD that decides exactly how to ensure they sell to non-flippers and so keep Rolex happy, some will be very cautious and some cavalier.

Price is relative, and quite personal. Also, MSRP is just a "suggestion". If you like it enough and can comfortably afford it for the market price of 18K, I'd say go for it. Think about how much MF/red Subs or 4-digit Daytonas go for. They make the 18K for the 116500 look like a bargain!

Which Daytona would people buy for under 20k? I’ve been searching for a white faced Daytona to no success. Looking for viable options. Is the oysterflex banded watches a good alternative?

What’s that one? And what’s the retail? I wish the interior of the smaller dials were lighter also but that might be the perfect alternative. Wish it came on a bracelet. How does the oysterflex feel?
