My wife is a teacher and she wears a Rolex to school. She alternates between a diamond Datejust and a two tone Yacht Master. She's not the only one wearing a Rolex in her school. I say wear what you love! Let your watch be a testimony and inspiration to your kids. Tell them your story every chance you get. Let them know that they can achieve anything, as long as they try and don't give up!

Wear it. Tell people it is a gift. You are being honest, it is a gift to yourself.

I did some part time teaching a few years ago, wore my Rolex to every class I took, nobody commented, I don't suppose anybody noticed. Just how I like it.

Yeah who cares what they think. You work hard and I'm sure you deserve it.
When I used to work for the state, I wore my DJ and gold DD all the time. There were a few times I got comments, but it's nobody's business what your finances are. In my case, my DJ was a wedding present from my parents and my DD was an inheritance. Not a single penny spent on my first two. Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk

Explorer II is super under the radar. Especially the 5-digit reference. Vast majority of people won't notice. It's definitely a watch enthusiasts watch.

My wife was a teacher for many years and drove an expensive car to work. For a while she had a principal who drove a Rolls to work. The school was an upper middle class neighborhood, not a wealthy neighborhood. Everyone rightly assumed these things came from family money, and their reasons for being in education were noble and their students were lucky. I'd imagine the same applies to you.

You're in one of the most underpaid and difficult professions. You deserve to give yourself a nice 'gift'. Reward yourself for being a great human being. Keep teaching and don't worry about what others will think. If anything, there might be some jealous envy, but that's not your problem. But like others have said, if you're in an inner city environment, be very cautious. Enjoy!

Find a way to keep the Tudor. With the shortage on SS Rolexes, you can probably save some more. Also see if your AD has any 0% financing. Even if you can afford to pay for it with cash, nothing beats free money! Finally, wear what you like. Most likely no one will notice.
Thank you for teaching our kids. |

I knew a teacher with three two-tone watches - Daytona, Sub and GMT. I’d go for it if I were you.

Just buy it and wear it to school. If concerned then wear it when you wear long sleeve and see how it goes :) No one would easily come and ask question about your watch if you act formal enough. If someone comments or asks questions about your Rolex just simply say that it is a fake one which came as a gift...simple. I personally wear my Rolex to my work (casual work requires lots of travelling) and I enjoy it. Wearing your Rolex at your job is not a problem but wearing it near family, friends, neighbours or girlfriend is much bigger concern I think. Everyone has a different life. |

I am a teacher, and I wear one mostly every day. Nobody notices. Of course if you pick the most visible one, it might be.

Why would I care what watch someone wears?
I'm a high school teacher, and I wear an Explorer II. I have a few kids who notice my watch and ask if it's real. I tell them it better be. Many of my students' parents are doctors and lawyers and businessman. I don't care what anyone thinks. I am an adult and will wear what I want. This is also Alaska, and not many people up here care about what other people own. I have fellow teachers who own boats that cost as much as my house, so...

I wouldn't worry about what others think. I've worn every single piece that I own in VP/P meetings as well as Parent-teacher conferences. I could care less if the parent were to wear a Swatch or a Richard Mille. I do not bother thinking about what others think as I wear what I like. Lately I've been wearing my Patek and most people are not aware of what it is. I've had a colleague once compliment it to which I said: "Thank you, it's just a cheap rubber strap watch... nothing special" Conversation came to an end just like that. I think I would have had a tough time talking out of it if it were a Rolex as the Oyster bracelet is so recognizable as well as the case design.
Without going too off tangent, wear what you like! Quote:

You work in one of the most important and, IMO, sometimes thankless professions. You've earned it and you should not worry about what others think.
I do understand the optics. I work in higher ed and when I drove a Lexus or Volvo, (neither being particularly high-end car like a Bentley, Rolls, etc.) I would get the occasional "backhanded compliment" about how it must be nice to have such a car. Today, I drive a loaded Ford Explorer (which cost more that the Volvo or Lexus, BTW) and it's crickets. For clarification, I bought the Ford because I liked it, no other reason. Moral of the story, life's too short! Get the Rolex! |

You've honestly come to the wrong place if you want to be TALKED OUT of spending money!
Go for it! Don't let worries like that hold you back. If you want a Rolex, buy a Rolex! If I saw my kids teacher wearing one then I wouldn't give it a second thought just because they're a teacher. Sent from my CLT-L09 using Tapatalk |
