Going to try some reverse psychology on AD next week....

So a local AD (have never bought from them but have had a few watches sized and polished there over the years) is reopening now that the Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down the stay at home ban enacted by our governor.

I need to get my 126715CHNR sized that I just got and am going to do that there. I'm pretty sure they are going to ask why I didn't buy such a piece from them. I'm going to tell them that until they offer me a good SS piece at MSRP that I won't be buying PM models (which have much higher margins for dealers) from them. Basically, the reverse of their "buy a ton of stuff and then maybe we will sell you a SS at MSRP." Probably should wait to say that until AFTER they have sized the watch.

I'm curious to see what they say.....or if they can suddenly come up with a Hulk.

I doubt they’ll care, they’re prob annoyed you’re wasting their time with menial tasks, thats prob why they don’t want to sell to you; taking advantage of the service and no sales; next customer please! No soup for you!!

LOL, doesn't bother me....I'll take my $35k elsewhere. I'm not a sucker. I also wasn't the one suddenly coming up with all these hot models in my safe once COVID started hurting. I think AD's need our business a little more than we need their business.

I like your mentality. Mine is similar.

Just a heads up, they might charge you for sizing the watch if you didn’t buy it there.

But yes, we don’t need watches. We want them.

There is a huge difference.

Interested to see AD reaction too.

AD should not charge for resizing. Rolex AD’s are supposed to do that FOC.

They’ve charged me before. I think it was $80 or $90.

Gave me a receipt and everything. Didn’t seem fishy at all.

Just save everyone some time by taking your $35k elsewhere. Next.

Way better than sucking up and succumbing to BS AD tactics. "Bundle up and we may just think about putting you on our waitlist."

If you’re really going to buy a pm then they will bundle it for you, easy,
sounds like they never tooK you seriously Or you really had no intention of buying a pm.
You’re trying to dangle a carrot in hopes it gets you what you really want

Let us know how it goes! Curious as well , all the best but I doubt it’ll go well ( no offence)

Could work for you, you never know. Otherwise, just like you said, you’ll take your 35k somewhere else

what PM?
alot of the gold watches are available for under retail which may even out the premium you pay on the ss

may be worth just going grey instead of playing physiological warfare with sales staff

I think it might work.

I’ve always wondered if this would work.

Walk in there with A LOT of confidence inside, but walk around like you’re not impressed at all.

Ask for a Daytona

They say no.

You say “eh, I’ll buy it gray market. What’s the mark up? $10k $12k? Beats going around asking people for favors”

I think if you say that with the most confidence in the world, you might convince them that indeed, you can afford it grey no problem.

Which would mean you can afford A LOT of their items.

The hope is that the SA or manager considers you a big fish, brings one out to try to make you a loyal big spending customer, and voila!

The deed is done.

I also thought of walking in with a fake Daytona white dial, saying how you spent $200k at the other AD to be able to get it, and that now you want the black dial for your business partner.

Again, they might buy it, and sell you one in hopes of you coming back to buy 15 Datejust for the rest of the company haha

But idk maybe they’re smarter than that.

Truth be told, I don’t buy fake watches and don’t condone that either.

Plus, my Datejust is great, and for that reason I don’t have the energy or the will power to try any of my two methods above

Plus, there’s lot of things to spend $10k on.

Good luck. My feeling is you’ll just irritate them. To them you’re still a non spender and (if where you are is anything like here), they’ll have plenty of big spenders to focus on. At best they may offer you a bundle with another PM piece.

Let us know how you get on

Perhaps they will most likely look back politely in a slightly dimmer light. There are hundreds of identical people in the queue behind you.
We are free to decide what the fair price is. But they don't have to agree and would rather sell to the person who isn't bothered about the 35k. It's easier.
*Hope they don't charge to resize!!

They will not care and will not struggle to sell Rolex after this pandemic. Plenty of people about with money.

why not buy the right screw driver and size it yourself? Takes a few minutes and eliminates the chance of them scratching your watch while they size it.

If you do, use the Loctite #222 purple on the screws to prevent them from backing out. Use only the smallest dab on the threads. It is considered the easiest to break the seal with simple hand tools if needed. The last thing you want is having your watch come off when running, swimming in the ocean, or if your arm is resting on an open car window. Yikes!

Soon enough they will be exercising their last reverse psychology card on you - the scarcity. It's a matter of time before dealers will be calling for those uncollected steel Submariners claiming that you got lucky and that it was hard to get you one while in reality you will be the 6th one they called before others passed on it and had cold feet.

You should ask the AD where you bought your 126715CHNR to get you the SS models.

Another AD cannot justify (to their management, to Rolex) selling a hot SS watch to someone who hasn’t bought a Gold DJ or Ladies DJ with Diamonds etc. from them.

126715CHNR is still considered a Sportswatch and highly desirable. In extreme cases (mainly smaller family owned AD) you can get an SS model with the CHNR and a discount on the CHNR from the same AD you bought it, but most ADs will even tell you there’s a list for the RG CHNR and you have to pay list price.

The desirable, and hard to get is the TT Chnr only, not the Full Gold. He should be able to get an SS sports model from the dealer he bought his FG Chnr from. Maybe he needs to wait a bit, or just go and buy a nice entry level DJ or SS sports, but only go ahead with the purchase if they give him a Hulk. He will end up with a nice 3 watch collection.

I'm going to guess they won't care where you got your other watch, unless you try to make them.

Assuming you’re correct that this AD uses the SS professional references with PM bundle Deals, my guess is they will simply ask you to show them the money

I love it and say go for it.

This is a nice change to all the regular “my AD beats me cos they love me” threads around here, which drive me bonkers. Not sure why people feel the need to grovel to their ADs so they may be allowed to spend their hard earned money. Does a “hot SS piece” really mean that much...

Go for it OP

I remember when ADs used to be the ones most concerned about building customer relationships.

I agree 100%

The OP wants to try something different, let’s let him try it.

It’s not like he’s trying to marry the AD.

If they don’t want his business, he can leave and go to someone else.

(Wait, i guess you can do that with love too lol)

It seems like you are doing the ADs work for them - ie offering to bundle before they suggest it. Depending on the AD and their clients though, buying one PM at MSRP may not be enough to get a hot SS. I think you may be overestimating the corona effect on the prof SS Rolex market.
