Do you guys wear Rolex to work?

Work, ohhh, good to remember that world during the lockdown. :-)

I wore some Rolex to work 28 of the 35 years I was in the workforce. Manufacturing plants to board rooms, never gave it a moment's thought. Admittedly I didn't spot a Rolex on a co-worker until I achieved a certain level in the company and even then outside the executive office, business and functional leadership they were rather scarce.

It's great that many wear theirs everyday to work. But what are your thoughts on the modern sport models with PCL and Ceramic bezel?

I saw a comment somewhere that Rolex has evolved into a jewelry piece instead of a tool watch.

Hence, the hesitation of wearing them to work. The fear of not wanting to give out the wrong perception of being pretentious or unwise for spending so much money for a watch.

I'm sure the country/world can't wait to get back to work. God bless those in the medical field, and all emergency workers. Thank you.

I think it also depends on the location, the type of company (industry too) and the individuals at the office. In my previous career in the mortgage banking, it was as common to see people at the office rocking a rolex (or a panerai or a cartier) as you would a "midtown uniform" in NYC. But since I've moved to tech, even the uber rich founders and the VC partners that I see don't wear any expensive watches (most of them wear apple watches, if at all). But who knows what they have in their watch closets at home.....

My avatar pic was taken at work. I rarely see my boss, but I deal with many, MANY passengers every day. For many years it was no problem, but in the last two years too many passengers have gotten too distracted by my GMT II and offered me cash for it instead of listening to me and letting me do my work. No time for time wasting in my job. Besides, about one year ago, the exact day a close relative of mine died, the GMT II started losing 6 sec/day. It was still under warranty, but at the RSC they said, their time machine shows 0,0sec/day, so nothing they can do.
I don't like quartz watches, but I need an exact watch for my job. So a few months ago I wanted a new watch, but Rolex does not have SS watches for sale, only for display since almost two years. So I got myself a new Omega PO cal 8900. Super accurate and nice timepiece.

But I still wonder what really happened to my Rolex the day my relative died.

So, the boss is not the only factor to consider at work.

how about you guys?

Is it possible that your boss doesn’t wear his nicer watch to work because he’s worried about what people might think? Is it conceivable that he really wants to purchase a Sub, and seeing someone else wearing one at work could enable him to feel comfortable taking the plunge? Could it be that although you noticed his watch, he may not notice or care what you or anyone else wears on their wrist?

I find it harsh to say “I don’t care, I wear what I want”, but yes I wear my DJ41 to work everyday and don’t worry about what people think. I love it and I hope when people see it they think “wow nice looking watch” just like if they noticed my shoes or sport coat or outfit in general. So yeah I wouldn’t overthink it - wear it in good health and don’t sweat the scratches either!

I honestly think it comes down to the persons character more than the actual watch being worn. IMO that phrase is usually associated with a biased opinion of who might wear “expensive watches” to work. If you call negative attention to yourself people will find reasons to call you out and a watch may be an easy way to do so but for the majority of us this could not be further from the truth. I believe that people will judge us on our character and a watch is simply just a watch (and possibly a pretty damn good one). Let your character speak for itself and I doubt anyone will notice unless they too have fallen down the same rabbit hole.

I sometimes wear my Rolex to work. If your a humble person, who’s not flashy. The watch your wearing won’t matter. Usually people who want attention are opposite that. They want people to notice their watch. It’s all about ones character. For me, less is more. I prefer simplicity.

It depends for me. Happy to wear my dj36 to work but not my rose gold ym40. Also if I were to go for a job interview prob not a Rolex at all. Some people rightly or wrongly do react badly to luxury brands. There are some situations where I avoid the risk.

I wouldn’t be negotiating my raise wearing a full gold watch on.
