I’m not sure what the difference in uptake between the metals is, and of course one can configure a combination of the two. I don’t know that it matters much value wise but I don’t track these things so I’m probably wrong.

I think the choice is mostly dependent on personal preference as all variants look great. I’ve requested the CO in platinum with grey dial and the CR in all rose gold. That’s because aside from custom dials, I find a full RG Resonance to be just about the most beautiful current FPJ to my eye. The CO looks equally beautiful to me in RG but I chose the platinum and grey to have variation in my collection. The black dials are also stunning, but they’re beyond my reach at the moment.

Agree. I like the "warmth" of full rose gold case + dial and also think this is the most beautiful configuration on a modern Journe.

Did you ask the RQ in 40 or 42?

It never occurred to me that RG is even rarer in terms of production number. It was not until I saw the interview with FP on Wei’s YouTube video then I learned about it and the plausible clause from both of them.

I have always been a white metal guy so RG never crossed my mind. Although I just broke my rule with a partial RG piece.

I asked for both the Optimum and Resonance in 42mm to match my Lune.
42mm wear perfectly on my wrist because of the curved lugs.

40mm is ok too, but I’ll always choose 42 if available. The only one I struggle with at 42 is the vertical tourbillion cause it wears like a hockey puck. :/ Not that it’s a bridge I’m likely to be offered to cross any time soon but I might have to get a tourbillion through the patrimoine route instead of the vertical.

May want to reach out to the boutique you've been working with. 4+ year wait time for ARS2 for existing owners seem long, but that may be the environment we're in

There is no better word for this than perfection.

Found the video in which the RG vs Pt rarity was mentioned:

https://youtu.be/S0LH4TNrGjg?si=vm70uKhEwu9AR2Q5

Same applies to the latest FFC trend. I have only seen Pt version and I believe that the first RG have not been delivered *yet*. (You know who you are )

Not mine but my wife’s first mechanical FPJ. I am not a rose gold person but this one looks so good that I may “borrow” it

thank you for that video! yes youre right - if I understand that video correctly, FPJ is saying that gold is much rarer in terms of production numbers simply because only 25% of his clientele prefers gold? what an interesting statistic if so - there are 3x more plat pieces vs gold

He also mentioned that platinum is sort of the original case material for his early pieces and RG came later.

But as others have mentioned, rarity should not be a factor but what you love to wear should be the only factor. It is a good problem to have.

Took this pic a few weeks ago whilst in NYC for an FPJ party. I'm not good at photography so I got really lucky with it. I like it so much I think I might get it framed, or maybe even get someone to paint it.

you are absolutely right in that what we love to wear is the only thing that should matter when selecting the config - rarity should have nothing to do with it.

the question I asked earlier in the thread isn't really about rarity, but more about whether the RG is the 'wrong' (for the lack of a better word) choice because it wasn't the way the Resonance was designed? this is somewhat reinforced by the video with FPJ stating a lot of his initial designs were with PT in mind.

at this point I tend to try to keep my collection to a minimum and only buy watches to keep for life - so it's very important to me that anything in my collection stands the test of time and remain classics!

though perhaps at the end of the day i'm overthinking this and should just buy what i like

In general I find Journe RG watches luxurious and beautiful. At the same time, when you have a "busier dial" or more complicated piece, I generally prefer PT as it allows in my opinion, greater focus on the dial. The added heft is also nice :)

Over 3 days at IAMWATCH, I saw 7 platinum Resonance RQ and no other RG RQ other than the one on my wrist. The other platinum RQ owners told me they rarely see owners with a RG RQ. I didn't thought of rarity when I bought mine but it does appear the rose gold RQ and CO are harder to spot in the wild.

All of my Journes (besides the CS Havana) are PT, mainly because of the stealthiness. Suffice to say both Journes in PT and RG are great!!!

Last week I had to decide the Dial and Metal of the RQ Im suppose to get next year. I went with the RG/Grey mainly because the combination IMO looks AMAZING. This will be my "Grail" Journe and I dont plan to use it as an everyday watch, so RG made more sense, the warmth of the RG is beautiful. Also I dont have this combination and it will complement my collection perfectly.

That aside I can confirm, because the Brand told me, that there are more RQ's in PT that there are in RG. The PT/Salmon being the most asked, actually this was my choice at first ( I loved it) but I have the OL in that combination and after talking with my SA we came to the conclusion that it would be better to get the RG case.

There is clearly not a wrong choice it's just a matter of preference and how it fits with what you already have.

I think a lot of people take cues from the patek collecting world where platinum carries a premium but in the journe world they simply charge a nominal difference based on your choice and they are available simultaneously.

When you think of important platinum pateks, what comes to mind is an end of run release that you may have a short window to get allocated.

Two different ways of doing things but I think the rose gold looks awesome on the resonance and inside a larger collection it’s easy to justify.

Masa once told me over dinner that there are hand-finishing on steel components of the more complex Journe watches. I took a loupe to scrutinize my RQ and saw these. They are not deep but they are there, those sharp angles. There are at least 4 on the dial side and 6 behind.

This is not surprising given the strong FPJ performance in the last auction.

Wonder if the bone shell script can be worked into an AST dial

Would say the auction result was a little disappointing.... Was expecting something around the 5-6m mark... considering an engraved 5711 went for 7.6m?
