The watch ran out of steam with the second hand almost in the right place, so I had to take a pic.

We're missing a picture of Gerardo's wearing his. You'd think he'd have one iced out after the GTG

This is my first ever post on The Rolex Forum, but I've been a lurker here for many, many years. Mostly I just browsed the For Sale section ... seeing what's out there, building my WANT list, and using the forum to inform my acquisition decisions.

And it's strange, really, because for the longest time I had an aversion to Rolex due to the ubiquity of the Submariner, Daytona, and GMT. EVERYONE I run into in my business has one or the other or multiples of both, and I didn't want to be just another watch in the crowd. So I collected Omega, Longines, and oddball mid-70s chronographs. Then I made the mistake of walking into a jeweler and trying on an 116610LV.

I was hooked instantly.

So the search began ... I have been saving my coins for a little while and looking around at various venues to find a BRAND NEW Hulk. It was going to be my first Rolex purchase so I wanted my name on the paperwork. I wanted to be the original owner who saves the box and papers and passes it all down to my son and his son and his son. A legacy piece among a collection of cool watches.

The search has been going on for the last year, and on Monday I had a meeting with the partnership group of my building to discuss the terms of our lease renewal. We've been tenants in this building for 30 years ... my father moved the business into this place and subdivided it for the previous owner. We essentially managed the day to day operations of the property for 25 of those years, and we have found tenants to fill the few vacancies that have happened in that time. In essence, we've treated it like our own.

My father passed away a few months ago so this was the first time I'd done the face to face negotiations with the owners. Everything went extremely well for all parties involved, and at the end of the meeting I noticed one of the owners was wearing a nice Chopard and the other a Pepsi GMT. So we spent a few minutes talking watches. I told them about my desire for the Hulk and one of the partners started taking notes.

Well, yesterday while I was in the engine room building a motor he walked in unexpectedly. Now, I'd never met this man before Monday afternoon, and now he's standing unannounced in my doorway. He apologizes for not coming by on Tuesday and he hands me a box.

When I opened it, it was a brand new 116610LV (box, papers, everything). He showed me the warranty card and MY NAME WAS ON IT!!! I was absolutely floored. I tried to thank him but my vocabulary failed me. I asked him why and he said, "It was on your bucket list. Now it's off your bucket list. We have a policy of giving our tenants a gift at 30 years ... it started today."

I'm obviously still in shock at the whole episode. But I'm extremely excited to now be a member of the Rolex 116610LV owner's club. I am also super stoked on the watch's story ... it adds a wonderful dimension to the history of ownership, and it makes the whole thing so much more special.

I would post a photograph, but I haven't had an opportunity to take one yet!! :D

Anyway, I look forward to being a productive, non-lurking member of the forum from this point on.

Welcome!

Congrats!

And what a wonderful first post and story! Good things happen to good people. You've done "good" by the owners, clearly. May the watch bring you (and your son and grandson, etc.) years and years of happiness. The LVc is a keeper in its own right, and even more so now.

Wow cool story. This is also my first post after just joining the forum. I'm also looking to buy a new 116610LV. My question is I have a 50th anniversary sub in mint condition and was wondering the best way to sell and price to ask. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I'm located in the New York City area
