2-tone

I think the 2-tone DJ with a jubilee band is a very pretty watch!

I much prefer it over most other watches.

I do have a SS model too, but it just doesn't have that same "sparkle"!!!

To each his own ... whatever floats your boat!!

I love all the responses! Very entertaining to read! Basically it comes down to personal preference. No matter what Rolex you own you are not a poor person. I love both SS and my TT Blue Sub. It's all good. Not everyone has a Rolex on their arm.

I think TT is classier and dressier, SS is the everyday, work, casual watch not that it can't go both ways.

TT will come back, everything does

My Grail.....the TT blue dial sub

I have. No idea why they are unwanted. I think that the TT version of the sport watches such as the GMT and the Daytona are absolutely striking. The contrast in metals is what does it for me.

I don't think anyone's offended. I'm not, anyway. I usually wear my stainless watches, but I like gold on a strap, particularly the Breitling Chronomat 18k yellow gold on a black band. I have a white gold meteorite DD, which I love, and I'd never strap it. The bracelet is great, and it doesn't flash like yellow gold, so nobody's going to mistake me for Tony Soprano. It's very understated and elegant.

I hadn't realized that TT Rolexes were drugs on the market. Obviously, the prices need to come down until sales start to kick in. That's right. Come on down, prices. Keep coming. More, more. I mean less, less.

Then I'll buy that TT black submariner to go with my TT blue one. Oh yeah!!!

I'm surprised at such "hate" for TT bands...to me and the people I know a TT DJ (what I own) is a classy choice and not too gaudy or flashy.

TT only works for Datejusts for me. My wife has a TT DJ and it looks great on her.

Don't know why but the TT sub and daytona don't do it for me personally--I think it's because of the dials too.

I have attended clock and watch events for the past 30 years and have asked other members and collectors this same question for about the past 20 years and they mostly give the same reply, Stainless Steel is considered to be the true Sports Watch. Having said that I love TT and Gold.

Part of it is the fact that the markup of TT or solid gold versus all steel is significantly higher than the actual cost of the gold; therefore, there is a much bigger loss on the secondary market as it adjusts back to reality the true cost of the gold (much less).

I believe that the drop occurs because the watches command the higher price. Somebody is buying every one, obviously, and at the "high" price. Once the watches enter the pre-owned market, there are so many that it overwhelms the market. The rules of supply and demand rule. It's entirely possible that the secondary market has drifted more towards ss, but if you put an extra million ss models out there, the prices will drop.

I also believe that tt DJ's have been the biggest seller that Rolex has produced, for 50 years. There are millions out there.

TTs are far from out of style and I see just as many on twenty something's as I do on guys in their 50sn. I rarly see them on guys over 60 who almost universally wear day-dates and date-justs. The TTs are still young guy's watches.

3 years ago all I liked was SS. Today I like the TT models too.
Opinions change. It's all good.

ss is more affordable new and is more plentiful used. i bet the ss to gold ratio is 100 to 1, and 5x the price.

I recently purchased a ss daytona and yeah I had enough money to buy the T/T model but I just didn't like it.

The SS version seems more practical to wear on a day to day bases and the gold one doesn't.

I mean I like wearing white T-shirt with blue jeans and I think the T/T model would have goofed it all up.

Oh and btw , maybe people just like its practical look and how it goes with almost everything.

Simple fact is, TT appeals to a smaller market in the sales of high end watches.(Versa SS)
This, in direct correlation with supply and demand, constitutes a higher loss in the secondary market!!

Something to note, although gold versa SS is worth more in metal form, a TT watch with gold will generally command a lower cost ratio because of demand..

Either way, choose what watch you want... IMO, TT or solid gold is a great choice and a watch should never be purchased with the intention to make money. It should be purchased to wear and enjoy!

Agreed. Coda, might be: a vintage rolex watch appreciates, if carefully selected
with regard to market conditions and if case, hands, dial, crown, all genuine, all correct.....but then this WAS about modern rolex TT's wasn't it....

No offense to anyone but I read a post on tz that said that the tt sub was standard issue to all men in Florida. In my area VA MD DC there is definitely a stainless preference in the 20-30's crowd. Really in the 40's also from what I've seen. I would wear a gold daydate but would not wear a tt datejust.

You would be shocked at how many TT Subs I see around here. I can see dozens of them when I'm out on the weekends.

My order of preference is SS < TT < Full 18k YG. From what I can tell a large majority of people like SS better than TT, SS is like the common norm I reckon so that explains why most people go for SS instead of TT or even full gold.

1 other thing.... not directly to the question of the 2ndary market but...

when you walk out of the AD with TT or all gold watch you take a huge hit in price.

vs SS which holds its value extremely well... this is true for all high end watches.
