Generally, on a daily basis between one and two hundred. Sometimes less, sometimes more.

Brilliant.
People who trade/deal/buy/sell carry cash. The can complete on the spot and get known for it in the circles they move. They then get offered more trades/deals and on it goes. Plus any moves they see on the road can get taken advantage of straightaway. The amounts Mon is talking about are not outrageous at all if your in the business of buying/selling. Don't mean to speak for him but if he carry's that amount it's down to experience. He can probably complete most day to day deals that appear, and most sellers would not expect higher amounts to come out of 'petty cash' and would wait for the rest if need be. If you're in a 9-5 job it's probably a bit outside your comfort zone thats all. |

If not part of your livelihood or hobby, you can't appreciate how cash can be instrumental in generating more cash flow. As well, when people are in a jam, and can find something to sell, it's a blessing sometimes for someone to come along and buy that one thing with cash that gets them out of their dilemma. I have met so many interesting and enterprising folks along the way, trading/buying-selling - the stories, maybe boring to others, can be somewhat entertaining and dually resplendent with lessons of life. What is that red thingy next to the quote button in his post? I haven’t seen that before.

"Back in the day" a couple particular clients paid only in cash. It was like Monopoly money to me, a single guy with no bills. Lots of traveling.

My dad, a retired school teacher, always has a couple grand on him. I never asked why. Maybe it’s a generational thing. |

Late to the party here. I carry between $0-60, no matter what I withdraw, and my wife takes the rest. Usually when I need cash, I'm at the $0 end, at which point I get a kick of making my wife go through the machinations of purse opening, wallet opening, and sighing. I prefer to do all payments through the mobile device, and with regular credit cards when needed. Visiting tipping establishments always seems to put me in an awkward situation....

Don't know why some are having an issue with this, carrying lots of bills makes perfect sense to me.
How else ya gonna make it rain? |

That might be the only exception. Making it rain with all my CC's which are now all made from metal these days, and im running the risk of poking someones eye out. Safety first. The flip side is why carry cash in other situations? Who knows where that money has been, and now its all got glitter stuck on it. Gross |

I carry cards, no cash just like QE II. There's no need for cash these days, and I think it will probably become a thing of the past in a few years. Cheques are on their last legs.

I usually have 50 - 60 on me but that's about it. I prefer using the credit card to earn miles and pay off the card monthly. I usually get 2 - 3 flights free every year just by using credit cards instead of cash and it doesn't cost me a thing. Seems like a no brainer to use CCs instead of cash.

Until a few years ago I often have $10-20K in my wallet but not longer. Today there is way too many robbers out there and the cash deals
are max 5% today in my shop. So today I'm just that poor as I looks.

People here tend to assume that the world is the same as their locale, but there are still a lot of places that don’t take cards (my local McDonalds, for example). |
