Seems the sentiment here is that the move is more sales/marketing driven

Whatever the reasoning, I feel sorry for the ADs who’ve dropped substantial amounts of money into their retail and have nothing to sell.

Agree- seems cruel to have strong-armed ADs to spend money to renovate a corner of their store to create a Rolex “boutique” within their space and then to choke supply to same ADs. If I was an honest AD (ie one that isn’t supplying grays), I’d be pretty pissed off.

So, are you going to get a Hulk this year or hee and haw about it? Just do it. You want it, buy it.

Rolex is letting all Authorized Dealers IN WRITING that, effective immediately, they will CUT BACK the production of ALL professional line watches. Not only SS, but 2T and precious metal.

Therefore, we, as customers, will see LESS of these units at our AD’s. Hold on to your subs, GMTs, Daytonas...steel, rolesor or gold/platinum. They will be harder to get.

The old stock could have been all sold by last November . This notion that there was an oversupply of SS sports watches that Rolex is trying to unload pre-Basel just isn’t true.

I think it’s about time. Icons like the Sub and GMT shouldn’t be sitting behind shelves and discounted the way they were. Will be interesting though to see how this pans out.

You may be right, but I don’t think everyone here is criticizing the decision because they’re worried about the company. They’re criticizing the decision because they want to buy watches, because they’re customers, not Rolex employees.

To me, building up exclusivity on something like a dive watch is ridiculous, and it makes me like the brand less. I don’t want a freaking Birkin bag. I just want a solid watch.

It sure does seem, at least on the surface, Rolex doesn’t care about me. Actually Rolex doesn’t even know I exist. I guess if we are playing scarcity game, I will be the loser as I am not a VIP or big spender. I just enjoy the hobby and saved up for my purchase.

Time for me to consider and branch out to other brands. Not that Rolex cares.

I agree 100%. In fact, having been let down by one AD and having almost no chance with any others, I've given up on getting my hands on a Daytona and am instead wearing - and loving - a VC Overseas Chrono instead.

It may not affect Rolex one iota, but at least i'm happy.

I’m calling BS on creating exclusively for the brand.

Every Joe Schmo I’m very major city has one. They are everywhere.

There are countless amounts in the world.

It would take decades to create real exclusivety with the amount of watches they have already sold.

In opinion, your post is spot on.

And they do know what they are doing. But it doesn’t mean they will be successful at it. Bigger badder companies have tried new things and failed miserably.

Are the the kings now? Sure. But time will tell if they can still maintain that status.

And so ends the speculation on the Greys taking a haircut on their premium pricing. Seems it may get worse before it gets better. If you want it and see it, buy what you can get now and HODL!

Remember that post where you bought a handful of NOS 5 digits for investment and everyone laughed

I am guessing that would have worked quite well.

Every single day.

It has molded my thoughts for today. Talk about regret.

Sigh.

Sold a silver snoopy too. Lmao.

Truly, no actual “real” regrets. Live and learn. And boy have learned.

We Coke will desimate All.

But it’s still only one watch for a big brand.

Lots and lots of imagination in this thread. TRF as a whole really lately has become big gossip world.

In my mind I can see Rolex laughing their heads out.

Exactly how I feel about. Rolex is not PP, VC, or AP. The day they try to claim that a Submariner isn't a mass produced aspirational product, I'm out.

If this slowdown is worldwide, and not just for a particular set of retailers, I'd think it's just in terms of the movement switchover. There's no precedent for Rolex wanting to cut back on sales; they're happy to be top of the heap in global sales.

I vote Subs with 3235 at Basel.
