Personally I’ve switched attention to older models now. The 6 digit ceramic hysteria has kinda ruined it for me and in any case I really love the charm of the 4 and 5 digits.

I cant handle the self serving judgemental AD's who seam think you need to look like a person who deserves to wear a Rolex ! I've pad significantly over retail for the watch I want and happy happy to do so I don't not have to deal with the AD's !. I've been to one specific AD twice for new models and they won't even entertain putting me on the waiting lists. Does not leave a nice taste in your mouth !

I'm fairly certain the name is now 'electronically' attached. Just got my BLNR last week and that's the explanation I was given.

Yes. Would I still be dreaming come end of summer - maybe not. We’ll have to wait and see how the economy unfolds.

And to the OPs original question - no I have not done it. I just picked up a Hulk from an AD at MSRP of course.
youll defo still be dreaming end of summer if you think ceramic daytonas will go for $16k USD

If that is the case I don't know how my AD knows my full name off-heart. When I picked up my Hulk I didn't provide it, and pretty certain they don't know it. . Maybe its on file, who knows, all I can say is that my SA purposefully pointed at the card and said they "leave them blank" now as it was right as COVID restrictions lifted here in NYC.

I have never gone to grey market because I have had no trouble getting any Rolex at or below retail in a short period of time from my favorite AD.

If you'll pardon the curiosity, how long have you known your AD and were you able to get watches at/below retail at the beginning of your relationship?

I got my hulk&batman from the ad 3 years ago and waited 2 years for white DaytonaC. Then fed up with calling&asking so went to grey route. I got it at Feb, 2019 and still waiting the call from AD :)
Now unfortunately, NO ADs will be selling the 17k blro at list price without taking an arm&leg. Those days are gone. Same for AP and Patek. Premium cost always will be added in some way by the AD + waiting time and list games.
Try selling a Daytona C at 22k usd and see yourself its gone at the second day. So, why the ADs will gift that 7k to the customer without getting anything.
With new warranty cards i dont see any improvement for the current situation, since it is driven by Rolex itself

My new WG pepsi came with the new card - with a built in chip. Apparently it's meant to make it easier for Rolex to track the watches round the world. ADs selling to grey's in a different continent etc. Regular patterns can then be identified. Regular flippers will also be recognized more easily - not that ADs will definitely stop selling to them, it just may open the door to other mere mortals such as myself - here's hoping.

In the UK I'm fairly certain this is not the case. My last watch came with the new warranty card. My AD keeps a record of what they sell me (among other things). Rolex do not have this information. The data protection regs have been tightened up a lot here.

If in doubt and you want to check, you can ask any Rolex AD, chain, distributor or RSC what information they hold on you. They have to tell you by law. Or at least they do in the UK and EU.

I might be wrong. I thought it was established some months ago that the new warranty card does not contain a chip.

Any updates on this? Has anyone found evidence that a chip is embedded?

I believe if Rolex really wants to track buyers they can easily make a user registration in their website like AP to check who bought what from where etc. With new warrant cards without any AD stamp & country code its clear that they are at the side of ADs.

I have been buying Rolex and other watches from the same great family owned business since about 2006. I got a nice discount the first time I bought from them. I went in one afternoon and bought a Sub LV a two tone GMT and a Glashutte Original pano date Diver in one purchase with cash (actually a check). I believe that they gave me about 10% off on that deal. I have probably purchased about a dozen watches from them since the initial deal as well as many pieces of jewelry for my wife. They do not always have a discount for me but never above SRP. And when I get on a list for a watch it has always been very quick to come in. I moved to Hawaii about 6000 miles from them but I still buy watches from them when I travel back there. I would not ever consider buying elsewhere.

Not a knock against anyone that went grey, but I do have a question. For mid to high 20k did you look at other options? I just personally feel there are a lot of other options there. Why not go PM and set yourself up for SS at MSRP?

Of course. Once you start hitting $20k for basic 3 hand SS watches you really need to start looking at precious metals/complications.

Your a fool if you dont do that.

I’m not trying to slight anyone, just wondering.. Makes me think that there are a lot of greys or flippers in this thread. I’m just searching for understanding.

I would pay a few hundred dollar premium to get a new model, but 22k for a Daytona and 16k for GMT? Never ever.

They're simply not worth it. None of the SS Rolex are worth that much. MSRP is even a bit much for what is offered. As said by another member, one should be looking at PM at this price point. And no, it's not about what people are willing to pay for. During the WWII occupation of my country people would pay fortunes for a loaf of bread. We all know it's still worth like 99 cents, actually.

Wake up from your dreams ladies & gentlemen and just go GREY! “The HYPE” is real. Have you guys seen the prices from most of the release dates of these “Ceramic Models”? You will not be offered a (116500LN, 116610LV, 126710BLRO AND BLNR). End of discussion only unless you’ve spent at least $100k at and AD. All of these “Ceramic Models” started selling on average $2k minimum if not more than MSRP and the prices have been climbing for the last 3 to 4 years. Prices will NOT come down and once the economy starts rising after “Covid-19”,...these HIT MODELS will be unobtainable for the average Rolex Fan!

I think you have a point. What we have seen, during the worst financial period any of us will ever likely live through, is that prices dipped and then have steadily increased.

It's almost beyond comprehension, but at this stage I do not see a massive crash in prices any more. I just don't see what the trigger point will be.

My personal prediction is that if the sub gets an update next month then prices will really start to creep on those. At the moment they are somewhat steady as the GMT seems to be taking all of the limelight.

I just bought a SkyD in July from am AD and had to write my full name as per the records in their database on the card.

What you're buying when you pay 15k for an LV is actually a 6-7k sports watch (being generous), during the wrong trend. It's not rocket science if you have been into this for a long time, really. I have these watches and I can't help but feel how ridiculous it is to pay that kind of money for them.

Similar thing happens to the RO, Nautilus and Aquanaut. Believe it or not the world wasn't created last year. People follow patterns, always have, always will. It only takes a trend change when it comes to something as simple and cyclical as sizes to render all those watches unfashionable.

I'm giving the current trend up until 2025 max. Watch and see.

The sensible thing to do would be thinking ahead of the curve and trying to figure out which currently out of favor watches will be trendy next. But that takes more knowledge than creating manchild nicknames and following instagram profiles. The world will keep spinning.

Not sure how this thread escaped the lock... but before it's closed down, I just want to commend you on a very effective and intelligent post.

Although the common sense, intellectual conclusions rarely compute in matters of emotion and luxury.

I was also expecting a correction with COVID, and still am suspicious that many things are a house of cards right now.. but whether it's 2025, or sooner, or later, the trend has already defied the thinking man's predictions..

so at this point, I am no longer underestimating the power of current market manipulation...

if the prices don't correct, I will just reconcile them to be out of my range of willingness to pay, and try to go on with life...
