I'd rather be without "friends" like that.

What a great "friend" to just keep $500 for his own mistake!

Um, the largest question I have after this entire thread is....

Why are you referring to this person as a friend?

Look up 'theft by swindle'. It's a criminal act. One should not have friends who are criminals. Can you do us a favor and let us know who they are so we don't become 'friends' with them....?

Thanks once more to all who posted their opinions and advice. If not for the expert advice you all gave, I would probably still be wearing a Franken-watch without even knowing it. I have already started stalking the TRF sale board and can't wait to have a 100% genuine Rolex on my wrist!
This thread had all the suspense and frustration of a horror movie where the girl keeps falling while running or fidgeting and dropping keys as a killer nears...Thx for the entertainment.
I am so happy it all worked out. I hate to see good people get screwed over. I praise your patience and understanding for I would have probably been escorted out by security.
Fact, this person is NOT your friend, compadre or even your chum. I failed to see(from the posted info) one genuine course of action initiated by him/her for a resolution and in the end even managed to make a profit on your misery. Much more answers were provided by TRF guys.

Be patient with your next purchase and buy the seller, even more than the watch in some cases.
I wish you all the best, and please post pictures when you are finally blessed with your very first true Rolex.

LOL! Beautifully put, the horror movie analogy is perfect - LOL x 10.

Yes, I too, fail to see why he kept $500 for his mistake. At the very least, he should be giving YOU some extra cash to make it up!

Thanks for the update. Good luck on finding your dream watch.

I bet the $500 is the profit margin the Jeweler "friend" has on the sale of the watch.
The supplier probably agreed to take the watch back, but the greedy jeweler sees the opportunity to still swindle the $500 margin because OP is an easy target

The jeweler only got a little over half of his purchase price back from his supplier, so he gave us all of that, plus another $2400 out of his own pocket. We are happy with the resolution. No one had to hire a lawyer and there seem to be no hard feelings on either side. Moving on!

I'm really impressed with how the OP was so patient and willing to sort the few grains of wheat from a truck load of chaff throughout this thread. Maybe a lesson for those who insist on the presence of corrosion when they have never actually inspected the watch, or for those who offer suggestions not necessarily relevant anymore because they wouldn't read what the OP had posted just a little while earlier, or those who wish to tell her and her husband how to deal with a friend when no one here knows the history or nature of their friendship and can't fathom her compassion for the jeweler friend's predicament after he apparently did her a favor in sourcing this for her in the first place. Or for those who never did quite pick up on the gender of the OP. It's as if everyone is so eager to opine without gather facts. And all the while that's what she did ever so graciously.

No, no one knows the history/nature of the friendship, only she does.

Predicament? What obligation did the jeweler friend have in finding her a watch? LOL. That's downright silly . The JEWELER 'friend' has ZERO business agreeing to source something he knows little or nothing about. If he chooses to step into the watch arena being uniformed/unqualified/unskilled or just 'lacking knowledge'....he does so AT HIS OWN RISK.....NOT at HIS CUSTOMERS. Keeping $500.00 for himself was the wrong thing to do as a businessman, and for sure, the wrong thing to do to a friend. Period.

I think most people responding to this thread had her best interests in mind, given the facts that she presented/gave us.

What a tread

Let's move on guys as Msjenbowen has!

Now, when you are on your watch hunt, remember to research on the seller. That is actually relatively more important than the watch :)

All the best with your search

The great thing about TRF is getting help when you need it. Look through the Who's Who for the most trusted sellers here and then find the watch you want.

I apologize to every one of you who just saw this thread pop up again and want to stab yourself in the eye, but this is the end, I promise!

I just got home today from a face-to-face with, kanger, a trusted TRF seller who has made this whole disaster completely worth all the energy and time we have spent on the situation. Say hello to my new, 100% genuine Rolex!

That dial looks fake to me..the numerals are not straight. The magnifications looks to be only 2 times , not 2 1/2 and their looks to be some discolouration under the bezel. Where did you get it?

Glad this thread is over !!

As a new Rolex watch owner, I must say the forum members and their advice was impressive.
Glad they gave the Lady lawyer good solid advice and the outcome was a happy ending.
good luck
