I lusted after a YM for a very long time, started out with not being able to see a new one in the flesh being my first issue, then I moved on to the pre-loved market and found the model I liked, 11662, while I thought about it over a month out of country the pre-loved prices hiked from around £5k to £6k and above in some cases, and even today I can see a 4 yr old watch at £7,500 on line ..... for that reason, I took a very big step back as I didnt lust after it enough to justify the hike that came as a result of the SS shortage ... which probably tells me it may not have lasted very long in my collection and was possibly a fleeting romance as opposed to a long term relationship watch after all.

What’s wrong with liking a particular model because you can?? No justification needed.
You don’t see women debating which cut of diamond is better and have to give data to back up their opinion.......

I've never thought about it like that, but that's so true! Buy and wear what YOU like!

I love mine but I must admit that I don't wear it that often. I wear my sub daily. Gets great compliments when I do wear it though! It was my first so I doubt I would sell it.

Have to agree with what others already said: it's just too feminine.
The 116655 is a winner though. |

My first was a YM, I was a fool and switched it for a two-tone GMT.
Came back to my senses and don’t think I’ll ever get rid of it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Great watch. What dial. Shame it's a little more pricey. Does seem to have better availability too. Next on my list and may even swap my 16710 for one.

A YM costs £2250 more than a sub and has a Pt bezel where as a DJ 41 fluted (white gold) bezel costs £1450 more than a smooth bezel. Platinum always costs more than gold in watches so the rest of the difference can be attributed to that and that its 950Pt vs 750 AU.

I guess we need Jocke to get out his micrometer and measure the case back thickness of both watches.
Unless there is a significant difference, I don’t think it matters regarding depth rating.

A YM was my first rolex. Had it for many years and loved it! Very understated, but supremely versatile. I went scuba diving with it, did alpine climbing, and wore it to my wedding.
That said, I think it is due for a refresh!

For reference: The sub and Milgauss are 13mm thick The GMT is 12.4 mm (it looked to me like the same case as the SUB, but a slimmer case back). The YM and the Date Just are 11.6 and 11.7mm thick The water resistance thing is kind of funny. Yeah, in the 70’s I found the water proofness and accuracy pretty important, but these days I (and everyone) dive with a dive computer. I do take watches diving, but geeze, I’m not going down more than 60 feet… For me the Sub is just to stale, too much of a cliché, and a bit too thick on the wrist. The YM really does need that black bezel though (aka rose gold bezel) I’m in the market for a blue dial YM if anyone wants to sell one. ;-) |

All other things being equal, I doubt that 1.5 mm thickness difference would affect water resistance.
My new YM that I got after retiring my Sub 1680. I love it. I think it’s the most unique Rolex having platinum bezel, insert and dial, IMHO Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I dive, but no one uses a watch for diving – that is what dive computers are for. As for price, all used models gravitate towards the SS price. If the Rolex is not SS, it is overpriced. So a Platinum YM ends up priced where a SS sub would be – maybe less for the albinoish version YM. |

When I bought my YM 116622 platinum dial in 2015, the retail price was 11,350 euros where I live. All ADs would give me a 15% discount, nothing more. My grail, loved the look on my wrist, the fit was perfect. So I went online and got it new and stickered full set from an Italian grey seller on Chrono24. It cost me....wait for it.... 7,650 euros (all taxes and shipping included). That's a whopping 33% off for a new piece. Preowned ones were barely cheaper, just not worth it. But that was 3 years ago and boy has it changed since, with the whole madness. I saw one the other day advertised on eBay new stickered full set for 12K USD (the same platinum dial ref 116622).

I personally think it would look so much better on a brown leather strap.

What is up with the Yachmaster?
Was offered a blue dial 116622 today for around USD 8,800 because I don’t have to pay VAT here in Turkey. Just not sure it’s singing to me.

YM is the sub for beautiful people. Bought one for my beautiful wife. The higher price seems to really bug the sub-only crowd.
