Seadweller 43 is a mixed bag

I recently picked one up and the diameter is perfect for my tastes. the lug to lug and 43mm size is perfect.

Why I am debating letting it go is because of its thickness. This would have been perfect for those who prefer >40mm watches but it is such a thick slab. Why must they ruin the look just to stay it can reach 4000 ft under?

Anyone have similar sentiments wearing the SD43?

Much like 99.9% of people who own the SD43, no I am not.

Do you have data to back your claim?

Regardless, for you, I would move into a nice DJ.

The burson of proof is on you to provide data that more than literally a few people dive with a luxury watch. Not me.

SD43 a "luxury watch"? It's a tool watch designed and made to take on extreme conditions.

And of the .1% who are divers, no one goes that deep and if they are, they’re not wearing a rolex. This watch has little to do with diving.

For me it's the opposite.
But, I think it all comes down to the person wearing it and if it works for them or not.

The sides on the SD43 are not super think like the 41-43mm Tudors-- so to me, my SD43 wears noticeably thinner than those Tudors, which wear well for me also-- It's all about the wearers wrist shape and how it mates up with the case back. For me the case back tucks nicely in the flat part of my wrist, so while I too would take the SD43 thiner, it is in no way a deal breaker. It wears very much like a 42mm Exp II. PLUS: You get a much more interesting watch to a Sub, IMHO, you just gotta be okay with the fit.

Funny you mention this

I just was talking to another member here on TRF and he also compared it to the EXPII. I was asking because I’m also considering a SD43 and him and I both own a EXPII, PM SkyD, etc

I was asking what does it compare to? He mentioned EXPII

May just have to get a SD43 and find out. Caseback wise I’ve owned/own a 116600 and 16600. Can’t be that different right? Or can it..

I’ve had differing opinions from 2 members here but both said the SD43 is a great watch

You might be surprised, I know I was!

I owned the SD43 for about a year and ended up moving it on because of the issues I had with the caseback and my wrist. Granted it’s only been a couple of months since I picked up a 116600 but it seems to fit my wrist a lot better and I haven’t noticed the caseback bothering me on the SD4K.

SD43 seems to be rather polarizing. I'll bet it's the easiest SS model to obtain via an AD and even through Grey it's not much above MSRP.
- The perfect watch for some (could be 1-watch 'collection' for me)
- Too heavy/fat/uncomfortable for the rest

Even the OG SD was never very popular compared to the Sub. Oh well

Not that easy. Been waiting 20 months now...and I have purchase history.

Without a doubt, the SD43 is a great watch.

I also had issues with getting a good fit so I moved it on. It was a real pity.

I’ve read that the SDK and SD43 are the same thickness. So I’m thinking unless they shaved the case and added to the caseback on the SD43 from the SDK can it be that much different?

I’ve never had one issue with my 16600 or 116600 on the wrist. SD43? Don’t know “yet” but maybe you’re right and I’m in for a surprise.

I’ve got an EXP2 and an SD43. They wear a bit differently, but it’s a fair reference point. The SD43 is amazing…get one!

I recently sold my SD43 because I couldn’t get a comfortable fit despite several strap changes.

That was the only reason though. I loved everything else about the watch (aesthetics wise especially) It was such a pity. Everything else about it was sharp and had this menacing vibe.

You need a flat wrist to enjoy a SD43 fully.

My wrist is as flat as it gets. The extruding caseback makes the case not hug the wrist fully and no flat wrist would help that, unless you wear the watch ridiculously tight, which would defeat the purpose of enjoying a watch.

I think it looks perfect, and the proportion is much better than the submariner. the sd43 is my favorite daily wearer out of my collection.

Funny, before I even saw this thread, I had made a mental note this morning that I seem to be wearing the SD43 all the time. Definitely has become my favorite daily wearer as well!

Its not so much a flat wrist as a flat concave wrist, which enables the caseback to sit in the "hollow" between the wrist bones.

SD43s need to be worn "snug" for optimum comfort in my experience which may not suit your wearing style.

I was happy wear mine as a daily and I've not got particularly large wrists, but have the ideal wrist shape.

just put an aftermarket caseback on it thats flat and problem solved. When you sell switch it back.

I have a flat wrist. I bought a SD43 3 years ago from the AD. I loved everything about the watch. The red text, the more aggressive bezel, the proportions.

But after 3 years I sold it and moved into the 41mm Cermit. No regrets. Its just so much more comfortable than the SD43

Criticizing a true deep dive watch because of thickness?

Furthermore, why would you buy it if that’s how you feel.
