Yes, and curiously it's a quartz midsize, quite an inexpensive watch at the time.

Why would choosing an Omega watch, indicate she was not a watch person?

I don't own a Sub, but I do own three other Rolex pieces, the first I bought in 2012, and the latest I bought last year.

A few days ago, I purchased an Omega SMP. See here for more info:

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=682305

Pound for Pound, the Omega is the better watch. If the Rolex Sub was $4000 - and available - I bet it would sell 10:1 compared to the Omega! But such is not the case. The Omega is half the price, and readily available. As I said in my post above, the Omega has every attribute you would expect from a high calibre time piece. Since buying it last week, I've worn it every day.

At the end of the day, I just like watches, and am not bound to one brand. I own Rado, Breitling, Tag, and I love them all for separate reasons. I bought the Omega as I wanted a quality watch that wasn't, well, a Rolex!

I've always preferred my Seamaster PO to the Sub 116610LN based on looks. To me it's in another league.

The SMP however I've never been a fan of the gimmicky wave dial and skeleton hands, lacks substance to me.

^ very beautiful, best looking SMP I've seen. I had the older version, one of my all time favorites, but I got it flooded on a dive, didn't check the Hev, it was open, my fault. I was looking to get another SMP as replacement but decided on the SD instead. I could not be any happier. I got to wear my friends sub 14060 for a few months. As much as the SMP is a wonderful watch, the sub's feel of quality is much higher. The SMP looks really good but will take the sub any day.

So does anyone regret buying the new 2018 Omega SMP 300 or is it a keeper?

This is the real question I want answered as I had buyers remorse when I had the previous SMP and it just felt inferior to the Sub..this one appears different

In a word: No. Granted, I've had my SMP <a month, but I'm confident I won't feel any remorse. It's a fine timepiece, loaded with features and function, stylish, and unique.

I received one recently as an insurance claim replacement for the previous Seamaster with the flat blue dial that I really liked and wore a lot.
Couldn’t get on with the new version and I have already moved it on.

I've had mine a month now, don't think it'll be going anytime soon. I've never owned a Sub, so can't compare.

Once you have a Rolex on your wrist you don’t want to try any other brands. Rolex is king of all watches.

Mike has a good point though. Once I bought my first Rolex it didn’t take long to sell most of my Omegas to buy more Rolex. Kept the Speedy, Hour Vision and a couple of vintages, but the POs all got traded in - haven’t regretted it for a moment.

Give him a few more days, he just found the forum.

Of course there are other brands but the plain truth is, if a person stuck with rolex sport models over the years, relative to most other brands they made a very wise decision.

That’s an over generalization and not fair. But you do know you’re on the premier Rolex forum called TRF

If you need a tool watch - diver, take a PO, otherwise get a sub. I like my sub, but I cannot treat it as a diver...

The Submariner just has that special magic sauce that no matter what Omega does to the Seamaster or PO, I just still prefer the simplicity and classic looks of the Submariner.
Besides, if you wait a few months Omega will release another LE or some new something or other but what ever it this time around, it still won't be better in my eyes.

Omega had a really good chance of at least matching the Submariner when they made the PO 2500. That was an amazingly beautiful watch with very classic and timeless aesthetics, but did Omega build on this....noooooo, they went ahead and ruined it. Made it fatter, thicker, bulbous thick hands etc...just ruined it.
Then they made the Seamaster in ceramic, with no date...I held my breath, I think we have something here....they made it larger(dumb founded)...what is wrong with this company.

Submariner, it's just simple, timeless and....special.
Better.

Strange thing is Omega were making two mens sizes unlike Rolex so they really didn't need to fall down this trap on both models of making them so thick but fall they did. Could have just kept the smaller one slim to compete with Rolex and the larger one thicker to compete with Breitling and PAM.

This. There's no over-detailed, over-engineered feature on the dial or the case of the Sub, because its designers have found the pretty perfect balance that is needed to make a timeless toolwatch.

Also I find the hands of the Seamaster 300 extremely ugly, but that's just me.

I'd be hard pressed not to try out an Omega.... the dang HE valve keeps me second guessing.

Submariner vs Seamaster

I’ve never been an Omega man, but, I managed to acquire this mint 2002 Seamaster the week before last.

It’s in a league of its own and is really different to the other modern Seamasters.

White gold bezel. Anyone recognise the style??

This was originally sold as a limited edition of 9999 called the America’s Cup in 2000 and then re-issued without the America’s cup wording but is otherwise identical. I owned the America’s cup and sold it after about five years of ownership. I have pictures somewhere but I’m too lazy to dig them out. I wore it in rotation with my no-date Sub 14060. I was not a fan of the bracelet and grew to hate the He valve but the dial, white gold bezel and sword hands made this one of my all time favorites. Nice pick up!

Yes, I was aware of its history and there are quite a few of the America’s Cup versions for sale but I specifically didn’t go for any of those because of the peculiar engraving of the case, and the lack of wording on the dial (simply ‘America’s Cup’).

The ‘non America’s’ version that I own is far less common - the workshop manager at the Omega service centre said he hadn’t seen this version before I took it in there last week, so that was interesting.

Funnily enough, the HE valve doesn’t bother me. My favourite things about it are the little accents like the red tip seconds hand and the wave dial which is really subtle compared with the other modern iterations I’ve seen, and of course, the white gold bezel. As for the bracelet, i actually think it’s a little similar to the older style Daytona’s, (apart from the clasp itself), and was still miles ahead for its time back in the early 00’s.

I rotate it alongside a SubC and a DJ41, so a nice mix.

It’s strange as I’ve never really opted for any of the Omega line up but when I put this on for the first time, I was blown away by it.

Cheers

Is a Honda Accord better than a Mercedes E class? Is a Camaro better than a Porsche 911?, If you must compare the Seamaster with something it’s closer nowadays to the Tudor Black Bay divers in quality and build. Imo if it’s value you want then the new Seamaster is a fantastic choice. However, if it’s timeless quality you want than it is the Rolex Submariner. Each has a much different vibe and demographic customer base.

The horological ignorance is embarrassing. I guess sticker talk is as far as some owners want to learn about the industry.

I don't have the most impressive collection by far, SubCD, DJII, and the wife has a DJ31. With that being said, I really enjoy some of the variety in my collection. I have several Ball watches that hold their own in mixed company. Fit, finish, and accuracy for the price point is pretty substantial in my opinion. Wear em in great health folks!!
