Try going through airport security with pepper spray. The consequences will be worse than having your Rolex stolen.

True, but the fact remains that between two and three a day will lose theirs in London alone according to the Met’s own data.

I met six ex-colleagues in town on Saturday, all of whom work in London. Of the seven of us only one had a watch on at all and that was an old Breitling as he would not wear his Rolex (while we were out drinking to be fair). One of the guys, whose office is in Knightsbridge, even had an internal email from his HR department warning all employees against wearing high-end watches in to the office over the festive period!

It’s certainly not new - I lost my first ever Rolex in a carjacking in London back in the mid 90’s but the recent hype has made it a hell of a lot more lucrative.

I am putting pressure on Chrono 24 to require serial numbers from sellers, for their own records. They don't have to disclose the numbers to anyone, certainly not in the advertisements for the watches that are for sale. Allowing criminals to sell stolen property on your platform opens the door for litigation, especially when the costs of implementing safeguards is next to nothing.

I’ve always read mixed reviews about Spain and wouldn’t personally wear a rolex to visit. Really sorry to hear this. People suck.

Really sorry about your watch.
Some other cities in Europe, like Paris and London, have the same problem. Better to avoid an expensive watch especially in summer.

Sorry to hear that happened to you OP. Glad it wasn’t worse. Can replace watches, not lives.

I'd be interested in hearing more? Why select one, why Chrono? In what means of pressure? Will this help return your watch? I'd think their (secondary marketers) fine print, would alleviate them from any guilt?

Someone is wearing your watch, as you type. They paid a price far lesser than retail, knowing it's hot, and could care less....I'm being frank, not without compassion.....

Sorry to hear this. As unfortunate as it sounds I rarely travel with a nicer watch. Definitely try to limit my visibility in new cities.

As mentioned elsewhere our world cruise starts Jan 4 from Rome, then Genoa Marseille then Barcelona...
I'm taking my Exp ll and it stays on the boat
I don't see the need to wear it whilst walking around any of the above
I tend to wear my Louis Erard as few if any know them and tend to dismiss it as a cheap Swatch

I'm not going on holiday stressing about a watch or worse *walking around like a dumb tourist subconsciously touting myself to be robbed*
(*I learnt that lesson back in the 90's*)

I'm pretty sure research and statistics would bear out that your watch is way more likely to be stolen from the room in your floating motel then your wrist.

i don't think i would leave a rolex on the boat or in a hotel ever. your trip is in january, you're not gonna be in a t shirt in barcelona. i think you'll be fine wearing it under sleeves, it would be much more of a dilemma if it was in the summer

So much stuff gets stolen on cruises as well lol when people leave valuables in the safe of their room. So easy to get those unlocked, especially as someone from the staff.

Listing a couple watches on Chrono24 last month, I listed full model and serial numbers. Is it not required?

Serial #'s are not required on Chrono24. It's negligent for them not to require serial numbers knowing that it allows for stolen product to be sold on their platform.

why would they put serial numbers for everyone to see? chinese fakes would just use real serial numbers making everything worse, or even worse, you can just replace watch heads on stolen watches with real serial numbers and resell them somewhere lol

I'm not a buyer on C24 but I think it's odd that they allow you to list a watch you (likely) don't own. So many photos are just the Rolex website generic photo of the watch. I suppose lots of sellers just put out marketing photos like that and then try sourcing the watch after someone bites?
I suppose it works...or else ppl wouldn't do it. I still think it's poor practice that they allow it.

i think they only allow dealers to do that but yeah that's what they do, lets them put a listing up at a much higher price without any risk of losing money by holding the actual watch. i agree that it shouldn't be allowed

Spent 2 days walking round Rome. First day 16km second day 12km
Not that busy compared to summer of course and most crims don't like the cold but tbh never felt watched or worried
Of course everyone was wearing heavy coats so few if any bare arms so it makes it much more difficult for the thieves to target

I also think many sellers don't want to go through the hassle of finding the serial number since it requires popping off the caseback or removing the bracelet.
