I like Mike Bloomfield from Paul Butterfield Blues Band. On Super Sessions, listen to Albert's Shuffle. Silky smooth blues guitarist.

I also like John Mayer, who is a superb blues guitarist who manages to smuggle in blues riffs into pop songs for the younger generation.

For me it would be: Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Buckethead, Teemu Mäntysaari

My +1 is in reference to Prince perhaps being the greatest guitar player, not Clapton's alleged quote. By the way, Clapton, although I love his guitar, has a habit of getting drunk and saying way too much.

What I love about this clip; Look at the faces of the other notable guitarists while Prince is going off.

Prince was a fruit loop; an absolute crackpot that was two stops short of Upton Park. Whilst the word tends to be over-used these days, I also think he's a legend and I very much doubt we'll see a talent like that again in a very long time. That boy had it all.

Some have speculated the look on the faces of Tom Petty and the others indicated their surprise that Prince, certainly an amazing musician, would turn the tribute to George Harrison into a head cutting completion.

Dhani, George Harrison's son, seems not surprised but rather in awe.

Not for one second am I excusing what he said, and no one knows what he actually meant cause he won't clarify, but precious few musicians have done as much to promote cultural music and the roots of rock and roll, R&B and pure delta blues than EC.

I've said some stupid sh*t myself over the years, thank god there was no microphone in my face 24/7/365 X 50 that's all I'm saying if he turns out to be an Enoch Powell storm trooper which I doubt I'll come back here and apologize.

There are so many different styles and sounds between many of the names already mentioned but those three are my favorite.
I probably would have to 2nd that one. Maybe Hendrix as well?
