The GMT Cs look great in two tone. I wonder how that gold holds up after years of wear? Do the gold and TT models tend to show more wear and tear?

Gold is very soft, it will scratch / scuff easier than SS.

I simply find the two tone to be a repugnant combination that doesn't appeal to me, much like any Hublot. Especially the blue two tone submariners which have become the poster children of retiree wrist watches. However, if a person enjoys a certain combination of metals, styles, sizes, etc... Then let it be, however they shouldn't take offense when somebody scoffs at their choice of a time piece. After all it shouldn't be of any concern to oneself what another thinks of his wristwatch if not for the sake of vanity and hurt pride.

If TT was unpopular Rolex would not make there watches in TT. When I am in an AD I see more TT models than SS or full gold.

My take is that the TT is wanted on the secondary market, just the same as the Stainless or White Gold models are. Although, in my observation, for some reason, there seems to be a lot more used TT's available than stainless. Since there are more available, the used TT watches have lower resale prices. Clearly a supply/demand phenomena.
As for why there are more TT's in the used market? Not sure. Maybe people sell them because they don't want to exhibit conspicuous consumption? A gold watch is certainly more 'flashy' than a SS watch. Perhaps it is because the TT's are very popular, thus Rolex has sold a lot more of them than the SS models, creating a surplus?

I agree, this is the exception. The TT GMTC is amazing.

i bought a pre-owned TT Daytona instead of a SS one because it was cheaper and now i find myself looking for another TT model. i sure hope that TT prices stay lower than SS because i think TT is growing on me!
in fact, i am now searching for a "repugnant" TT Sub because i tried on a 16613 and simply love it over the 16610! |

Personally, I think ALL (well most) Rolex watches are beautiful.
I have a YG DD, GMTII TT, SUB-c TT and DSSD. Does my watch collection mean that I like GOLD.... Heck yaaaaa! I had a chance to pick up a second hand all gold SUB at a killer price....Just couldn't pull the trigger! I think owning two all gold Rollies is , dare I say, over the board ?... I actually still enjoy wearing the DD, all 36mm of it! A true classic, timeless watch. |

I haven't read all the comments but wanted to add that many women see the TT as a great option because it allows for matching with jewelry of various hues. This is a big consideration for many gals when buying.
This wasn't my choice personally, but I certainly get it. |

The US is the number one buyer of two tones. In Europe they dislike them with passion and Rolex S/Steel rules. Prices for used T/Tones there (?) are selling between... "give them away" to unsaleable.. |

The price of gold has climbed so high that a number of jewellery firms are setting diamonds in sterling silver to make them more affordable.
I think that it really is simply a matter of TT being more available because Rolex sells so many more TT than anything else. I don't know which countries buy what, but on a pure percentage ratio TT outstrips sales in all other models! What is really shocking in the resale market is the drop in price of the heavely encrusted diamond watches. |

I would say that the tide has actually already started to turn, with rosegold, tt, and blacked-out gaining share at the expense of what is now the oh so typical ss. I'm 34 and I used to think that TT was gaudy, but now I'm really starting to think they look great. Especially rosegold TT. I'm not about to start wearing a 100% yg tomorrow (all of my watches are actually ss or titanium) but the tide has definitely turned. It's a gradual change however. Look how long it took for SS to virtually phase out yg and TT in the mass market. |

Simple supply/demand. I'd be curious to see figures about TT sales vs. all-stainless vs. all-gold. My perception is TT watches have the greatest sales numbers, therefore the greatest availability pre-owned.
Additionally, the terminology "unwanted" is inaccurate. I believe what you are trying to convey is disproportionate % price drops relative to the stainless models. Mathematically the all-gold watches depreciate more in the second-hand market than TT. Additionally, I think there is an inverse depreciation curve for Rolex relative to the new price. i.e. we are essentially internet watch experts here - the VAST majority of Rolex owners aren't like us. The average person who can afford a Day-Date new isn't looking for a used one, so folks who are OK with used reap the benefit. The scale converges slightly for TT and merges for SS models; you can save a bit for SS pre-owned, but typically not much. The wear-tear commentary from earlier also plays a role. |
