FS: Vintage Rolex Oyster Precision 6426 w/ Original 4-Quadrant GUILLOCHE Dial
Up for sale is this seldom seen late 1950s Rolex reference 6426 SS Oyster “Precision” with its original, unmolested and absolutely Near Mint engine turned Guilloche white dial featuring a stunning four-quadrant contrasting linen pattern. Additionally, this amazing Precision has the always-desirable “Explorer” layout, with applied gold 3-6-9 Arabics, coronet and arrowhead makers. The great majority of these old Oysters have had their dials refinished over the years so finding one with its 100% original dial is rare enough. But finding one with a stunning Guilloche dial like this one? Well, as the old saying goes: Find me another! ;)
The price for this classic Precision with ultra-rare original dial is $1750 USD OBRO by Paypal ($1700 by Paypal eCheck or Bank Wire), including fully insured shipping worldwide. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting. CASE & CASEBACK: Full size 35mm x 41mm Stainless Steel case that wears a bit larger because of the large face, beefy “broad shoulder” lugs and flat back. It appears to me that this case has never been polished and thus it shows marks commensurate with 50 years of steady wear: numerous scratches and the odd nick and ding, as well as what appears to be long-term bracelet end piece wear between the lugs. This makes the 455,k SN and reference # difficult to read but they are still legible. Additionally, someone has scratched a inventory/job # or the like or beneath the bottom right lug. By my tough standards, I rate the case as solidly Good unpolished condition. The outer caseback is a little less marked up with only superficial scratches and tool marks, and so is Very Good. Inner caseback shows negligible corrosion and many years worth of service marks, as well as a double reference stamp of “6246”/”6247.” The inner caseback is also date stamped “II.59”, which matches the case SN perfectly. DIAL & HANDS: The dial is really the undisputed star on this watch: An amazing contrasting four-quadrant linen pattern undoubtedly produced by the Guilloche method. If one wanted proof of the great dial designs that Rolex used to produce in the Golden Age of the 1950s, this could well be Exhibit A. The white of the dial is extremely bright with only very faint patina and the applied gold figures are also still quite bright. Even the original luminous dots are nearly uniformly intact, with only some minor degradation/discoloration where they come into contact with the gold markers. All factory original black printing is crisp and this 6246 features classic gold “Alpha” hour & minute hands with all original luminous fill intact and a blued steel baton sweep seconds, all in Excellent condition. In a word: Stunning! CROWN: The Twinlock crown screws down, winds and sets the time as it should. CRYSTAL: Could be the original low dome crystal because it shows some crazing and numerous vestigial scratches when viewed under a loupe, although only a few really deep ones. Good to Very Good overall. BEZEL: Classic smooth Explorer-type bezel shows the same sort of wear from the years as the case but sits flush and is without any warp. Solidly Good (and probably also never-polished) condition. MOVEMENT: This great Precision features the classic Rolex manual-wind cal. 1210 17-jewel movement that has a very strong braking action to prevent over winding. Though I do not know its service history and so cannot guarantee that it will not need a service in future, it is running like a top and keeping great time with a good power reserve, which of course I do guarantee to be the case upon shipment of the watch. BRACELET/BAND: This watch is supplied on a used but Very Good 18mm Remborde genuine black Croc strap with generic buckle. Although the lug width is technically 19mm, it actually seems a bit tighter than that, and so 18mm straps like this one work quite well. As stated above, I do not know if this watch was serviced recently and I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch at all as it has not been pressure tested. This classic Rolex Precision with amazing original dial is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get back the watch in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL. Thanks for looking, T. [email protected] |
