Enough is enough GMT IIC AD Saga...

Today I took the morning off to go to the AD and speak with the manager about the confusion concerning the GMT II that I want to see/buy...

Usually I always do business with him but since it has been busy at work and such... It just so happoned that every time I called of visited he was off..
Bad luck I guess.. This meant that I would do business with one of the staff whom I all know....I thought that this would be no problem... Anyways.....

Starting a few weeks ago, It was arranged that I could see a GMT II when it came in (+/- four days) because the GMT that was in stock had just been sold..

A number of days later I received a call from one of the staff that the watch was no longer available. Frustrated I called the manager (my AD) and he said that one of the staff had aranged another GMT to be sent.. Ok I thought..OK he thought as well!. IT was to arrive this past tuesday... Well you guessed it..tuesday, my telefoon rang and yes my intuition was correct.. The GMT was sold before it was dispatched and there were no more to be found.. Just a TT version... Expensive!!!! I informed about the next delivery... That would be mid feb I was told...

This morning I made the trip to the city,, Should be working but my frustations were not letting me concentrate so I decided that it was best to get to the bottom of the story ard relieve my watch obsession...

First of all, I expressed my dismay...about being held on a string two times. I did'nt appreciate this sort of 'get you excited and then burst the bubble' kind of business. He apologised and told me that the GMT II is selling in large numbers and everybody is trying to get them... Why they did'nt? simple...the staff AD's were not applying the necessary means to secure one! At that, He made a call to the branch which still had one on hold for someone else....The last mind you.....

The AD got on the phone with the other branch AD and explained that his customer (me) would buy NOW and that the watch should be sent without delay...(the two AD's are buddies so it was easily arranged) The other AD had the watch on hold now more then a week and had to let it go...

Well I left with a big smile on my face as my AD now assured me that the much in demand GMT IIC would be in on tuesday!!! I left a deposite to ensure the 2009 price..
Had the watch already been sold then the next delivery from Rolex headquarters is planned for mid march!!!! At that point the GMT would be more expensive as the prices will have been applied by then,, thats what I was told.....

Sorry for my rambelings...Im just excited!!!

I did however try the TT version and fell in love with the new GMT II concept.. Its definitly a GREAT Rolex and a PERFECT stablemate for my DJ II..
A weeks wait...I can handle that!!!.

Yes I know that it will be sweet when the watch is on my wrist.. Ony a number of days...

Sometimes, if you want something badly enough it becomes inaccessable..like a 'grail',,, Had I not even considered the new GMT II, then it would probley would have been readily available... Or so it might seem..

I tryed on the 11610LV again and boy did I like it too.. Pure rolex... Had it not been for the GMT upgraded bracelet with pcl's, the slightly wider supercase and the ceramic bezel then the LV would be on my wrist now... My AD definitly urged me to take the GMT because of these updates...and the fact that the dial has more to offer (GMT hand) He did mention that the 11610LV sub will be taken out of production!! For the collector is it a good time to get one because of that....

It's funny how we can vacillate for months deciding which model to purchase, but as soon as we narrow it down, BAM, gotta have it now or I will explode!

Thats it!!!
Besides, most sellers here are us located.. would never have a watch imported into the eu because of the import taxes and duties... That would make all savings mute and not to mention the headache of dealing with customs officials through the mail!!!

Some of you may really like the experience of actually buying a new watch.. I really dont like the process at all. Once I have it then I am content.

I have found the picking out and buying to be very stressfull. Maybe its me, but everytime I go to buy a watch, there is always some strings attatched, someone else who is also interested OR the dial that I want is not available or.........bla...bla...bla

Just look what I have had to go through thus far with this model.. I could write a novel about my experiences with my other 9 watches...

Dont get me wrong.. I love being in the position to research and choose a watch. I do it very carefully. I don't want to make a regretable purchase. Its just the factors which are outside my controle which make it stressfull...

I guess its along the same lines as buying a car......Buying my house was more stressfull...that I can tell you!!!

I first had to convince my wife to let me spend the funds.
Then I called the AD I had visited several times and spoke
with the salesperson I had spoken with on each visit. I
made a verbal offer and said I was ready to buy today,could
be there in 15 minutes if they were ready to accept my terms.
Took them about 45 mins to an hour to call me back.
That is excitement. I had my watch shortly after that call.
Love my gmtllc!

I must say the GMT II is simply the most luxurious Diver watch that I have ever come across. Completely understand your passion for it. When I first looked seriously at Rolexes about 3 months ago, the first one I tried on was the GMT IIc. To me, it is also the perfect size at 40mm. Most other divers are 42-44mm and up from there. The green accents are beautiful. The ceramic bezel, the dial, and the gorgeous bracelet all sparkle beautifully, without too much bling. For some reason, although I am not a fan at all of the cyclops date window, it does not bother me at all on that watch. All I can say is, everything seems to work on that watch. Glad you are finally getting it.

Funny how supply and demand is spread around for all the different Rolex models.

Here in Toronto, Canada, there's at least one GMTIIC at every AD and if they don't have one in stock, they just call Rolex Canada which is up the street and they'll have it in by mid-afternoon.

I was offered a SS Daytona with black-dial just before Christmas at MSRP, no discount.

Hence, none of the models are difficult to get here now.

Oh, and discounts are a plenty.

Yes, but were are talking Holland here...16 million + population on a piece of land 1/4 the size of maine, USA.. With this type of population density, 'being sold out' or low on stock is a very normal thing. You should try going to the supermarket just before christmas!!! yeiks................

I wouln't call the GMT IIc a divers watch as such, more of a dual time swim watch. If you want a divers watch you will have to get the Submariner or Seadweller. My father in law has just bought the IIc and it is something else but i want the new Pepsi if it ever comes to fruition.
