Hey Everyone, first, let me say THANK GOD I found you. I've been surfing ebay and then found luxury24.org...was feeling uneasy about sending money blindly. Started searching, found that there IT location is in Russia, but was still unsure (such a great deal...makes you wanna take risk)...but alas, I found all of you! And you saved me from making a donation to the Russian mob. I didn't realize there were so many scammers on ebay. I thought I would be protected against that from Paypal and like. Don't own Rolex yet, but am shopping for sub or GMT. Any advice for a noob in who to trust and where to find the best deals?

TRF has trusted sellers here with really good feedback from other TRF members. Ebay is filled with scams. Not only do you have to worry about buying the watch but you do not know what is inside the watch. A Rolex movement can start at 1,300.00 and go up. So you can be screwed by having a cheap movement. Just because the photograph of the watch is on Ebay does not mean it is the watch you are going to get. Buyer beware and start with the library on TRF and learn about what watch you want.

You have one of the best Rolex dealers up your way in Ben Bridge Jewelers. Several times a year they have sales on all their trade in Rolex watches. The flagship store in Dallas just south of you on US 75 has one of the best watch makers in the area working for them. My suggestion would be to peep them out and ask about their sales. It is much safer for a first time buyer to go this route rather than suffer the loss of funds to a scam. Just my .02

First off, welcome to the forum! Always the first recommendation is to check out an authorized dealer (AD). The second would be to search the for sale section here within the forum. If what you are looking for is not listed, all you have to do is ask - someone will certainly be able to help you. The prices are usually reasonable. Also look at the who's who section to get to know the sellers here and on ebay. What I have seen repeated time and time again is to "buy the seller" not the watch. Good luck!

Buy the Seller!!

No matter who you buy from, buy the seller first and foremost. If the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't. Genuine rolex watches sell within a fairly narrow range. Rarely, a person will find a bargain, but that is usually a local person selling her late husbands watch(s),or a fire sale due to financial reasons, divorce, etc.
You will do much better on this forum or other similar forums that are policed by members. You can be assured that you are getting a genuine watch. You still have to do your due diligence, as to condition, provenence, service, etc. You may get a good deal on Ebay, because there are some good dealers on Ebay that sell genuine watches, and describe their watches very well. But for every one of those, there are dozens of scammers and con artists trying to sell fake watches at genuine watch prices.
