Waiting list for SS Daytona

How is your AD dealig with a waiting list? It's first come first serve or fast come first serve. My AD's fast come first serve. Last week, my SA called me that there were two SS Daytona coming in. I gave her my cc information. I told her that I prefered a white dial. An half hour, she called me back with a bad news. She said that someone was faster than us. I won't miss the next one.

My local AD has called me twice---white dial, 1 1/2 year later a black dial. Both times I had to decline because of recent purchases----house the first time, other watches the second. I've been on the list so long that the retail getting to be out of reach. But; if I had said yes, it would have been held for me until I showed. If I had given cc info, they would have treated it as a purchase. But you might be able to find one here on the for sale forum.

I have found 5-6 new ss Daytonas in stock at ADs in the last year.
They sometimes but not always are on display.

My AD holds back a few in the safe for friends or preferred buyers. He always has a few on hand --just not on the shelves.

They are easy to get new, without waiting, from any number of ADs at list price. Some will even give you five per cent off.

It may be market dependent, here in Portland they all have waiting lists, this is one Rolex I'd really like to walk in and buy which makes me reluctant to just use one of the sellers on here to provide one (its also one of the few current models that sell at a higher than retail price on the gray market)

I have yet to put my name on any of "the lists"

Maybe soon...

I have been on my AD's waiting list for over 2 years now and still no news.

But to be honest, as and when I do get the call, I shall probably pass on it.

The recent MRSP prices and the economic climate have made this imo a very expensive watch.

Besides I have now discovered other watch manufacturer's.

I know of a BNIB SS w/white face available here in Toronto. (Plus, they're willing to 'talk' on price.) It's from a very respected AD.

If interested, fire me a PM.
Best,
Mark

Have you been living on Mars?
Joking....it must be a totally different market in the UK

The waiting lists are extensive....some parts of the USA they seem to be easier to get but here in the UK the only way is to wait years on a list (if you can even get on one) or buy one from grey market at typically £1,500 over list.

I have had two AD's that wouldn't even put my name on a waiting list, they said that there is "no point". By the time my name would be called, it would be years and "they have big, big, customers lined up for them when they come in". If it's all hype, then Rolex and the AD's do a hell of a job bluffing in this economy to "hold back" a $10,000 watch that folks like me would pull out the cash for when one of them says yes!

So youre in the USA?

Im puzzled....people in previous posts talk about the Daytona in the USA as if its almost "freely available".

I am confused to the actual situation in the USA....as some people say they cannot get them, others say theyre easy to get...

I guess it maybe depends on what state? and how well that state is dealing with recession etc?

Overall however, I am confused after all these contraditions...

I wouldnt pass on it....whack it on a credit card and either pay it up or sell it to a grey dealer....you may not make much but you'd at least make a few hundred pounds for it....

Defo dont pass on a Daytona IMO

There are some on here that say they are "everywhere"... I have been to over 6 AD's - in four states, three of which I have purchased jewelry from and only one of them gives me a snow balls chance in heck of getting a SS Daytona within the next year. When I told him I prefer Black Dial, he laughed! (then said the he will see what he can do). The other AD's all have WG and TT Daytona that they are willing to deal on ...but I know the day I buy a TT, an AD will call and say they have a SS for me! lol.

I either think some areas have them - but if they are willing to put them in the window, it seems they would have someone like a gray dealer buy it and resell it for a premium, or that it is a WG and people just assume it's SS - maybe?

My AD just told me to let me know if I wanted one. Pretty sure they always have a few in the back for their nice clients.

It's weird how it is this way. One of my client who is an attorney (He's british) based in Singapore told me how hard it is to come by a SS steel sports model in the UK, he's got a ND Sub on. And another client of mine (British lady) whenever I have my Daytona on she'll go 'Oh you're wearing that 'nice watch' today'.

In Asia, i think that they're readily available and the premium is relatively small.
