Hello all -- Been addicted to this site for about 2 weeks, boning up on Rolex knowledge. Man, you guys are crazy Rolex fans, that's for sure. Anyway, in my uneducated mind, I always thought the TT Datejust was, like, THE Rolex. Now, after reading a million posts, and seeing what watches many of you own, seems more accurately perhaps the Sub is the ICONIC Rolex of recent times. I mean, few if any of you say a peep about the Datejust line. Live and learn I guess. Anyway, if you care to chime in on your idea of an iconic Rolex, please do.

Really depends on your audience. I'd definitely say the two most prolific and recognizable are the DJ and the Sub. This forum strongly favors sports models, but in terms of worldwide sales, DJ totals nearly equal every other reference combined. And, in terms of the non-Rolex wearing population, folks are much more likely to associate the TT DJ, fluted bezel and Jubilee bracelet with "Rolex" than any other model.

Black Sub - most copied watch design in the world. Heck the companies who use the design even call their models "Submariners".
Datejust (Asia especially) - second most copied design.

Sports watches do seem to get most of "air" time and the Sub has historically been the iconic sports reference.

That said I'd guess worldwide the DJ is the most popular watch sold by Rolex.

Kevin -- Good point. I'm planning a purchase hopefully soon, and though I thought I wanted the exact DJ you just described this Blue SUB is calling me. Just think I'd beat it to death wearing it every day, all day. Decisions....

Actually, I forgot...

There is one company in particular who has copied most of Rolex's designs for years and years...Tudor! Shameless ripoffs.

Don't worry about that. Whatever watch you buy it's going to get scratches. You're going to be spending all of your time staring at the perfect dial, bezel, that big knurly triplock crown poking out from between the crown guards, and the light glinting off of the perfectly polished second hand sweeping ever so steadily around the dial.

No scratches in that picture.

Funny -- Your SS w/WG, jubilee white roman is on my short list too. You have to agree, the bracelet on that doesn't show dings like a TT Sub would....

I think Rolex is not easy if you want to decide on which models are the iconic ones. Sub, Explorer, Daytona, Day-Date, DateJust lead the pact IMHO. If GMT watches were more popular, I'm sure GMT-Master would be equally iconic than the listed five -- but it's not far behind. That said, my favourite Rolex is the GMT IIC

The DateJust ...Just does not

get enough love. Rolex sells more of them each year then any other model? The TOG/Thunderbird is one I want on my short list.

With its lush history, you can pretty much point at any model and callit iconic.

My list would be (not in any order):
Sub, DJ, Explorer 1, GMT (Pepsi), DD.

Of course if you ask the members of greater vintage (ie older

Love my TT DJ. Wear it daily to work. It's over 20 years old and looks absolutely new. As much as I love my sport watches, the DJ is iconic!
