Ignore the "advice" above, some of the older Rolex had a gold plate on them, not sure about the reference you mentioned.
Have a look at this reference from James Dowling 6634 1959 http://www.ukwatches.com/Rolex1.html |

Martin's right, some were gold plated. I ordered in a new gold plated bracelet direct from Rolex a few months back for a customer of mine

The words Rolex used were gold filled but they were a long time ago now and they were mainly for then Commonwealth countries and Canada.

Didn't they use the phrase 'gold wrapped'? I know the made a bunch of Perpetual Date's in this config in the 60's and early 70's.
The case was gold plated/wrapped and the ase backs were steel. There were also some plated bracelets made to match.

The 6694 is a SS Oyster date Precision and not a Daydate.

They used the word "gold shelled" or "gold wrapped". I had one of these, beautiful Oyster Perpetual Date from seventies...And sold it after awhile
Cheers!

"1947 Rolex "Tropical" Oyster Perpetual, Model 1014"
I own a gold-plated Rolex Oyster Perpetual which I believe is a 1014 with a Stainless Steel case topped with a gold cap. I was told the year is 1947 but I'm not certain how to confirm that. When I received it, the band was non-original, so I recently went to a Rolex Service Centre here in Vancouver and had them order a matching band for the watch. They provided a: "19MM YELLOW OYSTER BRAC" When I picked the watch & new bracelet up today from the service centre, the shop assistant exclaimed "wow, you have a gold-plated one". I didn't quite realize that they were this uncommon. I've read elsewhere: "The movement is the same Chronometer-rated Cal. 1560 that you would find in a Ref. 1016 or Ref. 5512 of the same era... All-in-all, a very interesting classic Rolex reference that has not been produced in large numbers." |

Yup.... Gold-filled..... I had to look carefully buying my ref 1002/7 to make sure it was NOT gold-filled...... Solid 14k.

I think mine is ref 1550 gold filled which I believe is a thicker plating than gold plated. I have the stretch also gold filled bracelet but it's flimsy so I used it with aftermarket gold plated band.
I blame it on the autoconnect. |

End links...
The watch looks great now. But my only hesitation is that the end links don't seem to be as long as the long lugs on the 1014 (longer than the 1024 for example). Am I crazy or correct? Should I take it back to the Service Centre?

I have a (genuine) 6694. Inside the case-back, and between the lugs, it's written "laminated gold 80 microns". It's rose gold colour.
