What does Hold Grail mean for WIS's ? Seen it being used a lot on TRF.

The term may have originated with the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. They were in search of the "holy grail", possibly the chalice used by Jesus at the last supper. So, it applies today to those of us "searching" for our quest, our "holy grail" of watches, whichever watch that may be.

To summarize, I wanted to own a rolex and searched for few months to decide on a model. Decided to get a sea-dweller, got one last month. My first rolex. So, is it correct to say:

I have found my holy grail and it's a sea-dweller that i own.

Your "holy grail" is pretty much what you consider to be your dream watch, the watch of all watches. Is the watch that you think of every day, that watch that you aspire to have one day or that you try to find on Ebay for a decent price.

When your wife gets pissed off at you because you have too many watches and you still want to buy another one you can always use the term "holy grail" to get away with getting another one by saying: "I found my holy grail and if I get it, I promise I won't by another piece ever again". Yes sure! Hahahaha. Once you get the disease and become a "watchaholic" you can't stop.

The watch i always wanted was a SS SUB. I have one and it is the one watch that i will never sell. The answer to the "If you could only keep one watch from your collection"

Its the one that always makes me smile.

Yes i would like to own an ExpII Orange Hand (Steve McQueen), a Paul Newman Daytona and a MILSUB, BUT They are not what i would call my Holy Grail watches.

As times passes my Sub actually becomes even more of my grail watch. Let me see if i can explain.

I have worn this watch for over 7 years. (5 days a week) I was wearing it when both my children were born. I was wearing it when i did my first trade (i work as a trader for a bank) When my son was hospitalized during his first year i was wearing it and nervously checking the time when he was in surgery. I was wearing it during several major milestones in my life and so its almost like its a friend that always there. (sorry if that sounds lame)

IMO, the "grail" has to be the thrill of the hunts and the acquisitions.

I know that my grail shall not be acquired until I own every flammin' Rolex on the planet!

I hear you... I have several on my list. With one of them at msrp (wouldn't do) would about pay for 3-4 of the others.

The hunt and anticipation is part of the fun!
