Got this vintage watch from my Father-in-Law

http://www.flickr.com/photos/camthec...7623648915547/

From his Father-in-law, my wife's grandfather, he was a surgeon in England and it is thought that it was purchased in the 1950's in England.

Can anyone confirm if it is legit and also an approximate value for insurance purposes.

Cool vintage watch

I would say as a ballpark figure $1,000 for insurance purposes but I'm no expert on this model.

Does it look legit at all? How do I find that out? Am I best to get myself to a rolex dealer and let them look at it?
Is there an online resource with pics of Rolex watches that is a hidden gem?

Without wanting to burst your bubble, its highly unlikely thats a hidden gem.

Chances are it has a hinged case back. Open it up and post a photo of the inside of the case back and the movement. Much easier to find out more about the watch that way.

My guess would be a 4 series
