Becthel corp Rolex watch
Hello all, well I need some help and found nothing on the internet so far. My father passed away a few years ago, before he died he added in his will that I was to get his Rolex watch. It was a retirement gift from his employeer The Bechtel Corp. It has diaminds in the face and I think the watch and band were all one color gold. I remember (I think) it saying Bechtel on the face but not sure. Well his new wife decided to keep it after he died. I asked her again later for the watch but she then said she sold it. Wow, this is all I would have had from my dad and she sold it? My question is does anyone know the value of this watch? I did try to look it up but found nothing. I'm hoping she still has the watch and if I take her to court and sue her for the value of the watch she may then give me the watch. I don't want the money just the watch. Can anyone help?????
thanks all topmiller Semper Fi |

It would be really hard to place any value on it without at least knowing the model number, condition and approximate age.

Sorry to hear this! Terrible, just terrible.
Do you remember what year he retired? Do you remember any other details about the watch? For example, did it have the day and/or date on the dial? Can you contact the company to see if they have any information on the watch? Or, generally, what kind of watches did they hand out? Maybe you have a picture of your father wearing the watch that you could scan and post? |

There have been some branded Rolex watches like Tiffany and CO. and believe it or not, Domino's Pizza. They do not seem to bring much of a premium if any just because of the branding. Other than that, you can look in the for sale section to see if you recognize anything and perhaps form a reasonable opinion as to the value.
More accurate estimate would require the model, age, and condition.

topmill,
Where I come from a written will is a legal document. If that is the case, I would pursue the watch in that manner. Your step mother has chosen this option; not you. I would seek the advice of legal counsel. Delay is not to your advantage. Regarding value, the watch is "priceless." Bob |

x2!! If legal action is your only recourse at this point, I hope it's not too late (you said it's been "a few years").
Yes, that's definitely the bargaining point at which your lawyer should start!! |

Sorry to hear about this, several questions arise. Who was named in the will as the executor? That person should've complied with the terms of the will regarding the watch. If there was a probate court filing and/or estate taxes paid the watch's status should've been settled. If several years have passed, it may be difficult to restart proceedings if you did not make your claim earlier. Of course, if his new wife was the executor and failed to comply with the terms of the will, then I would consult an attorney to see what you can do.
As to the watch, Bechtel (HQ in San Francisco) could probably advise as to the model, then you could determine the value. But as already stated earlier, it's priceless to you. |

Top, I hope that watch can be tracked down and you're able to get it! Good luck.

Thanks everyone for your input. I don't know the model but i'm thinking he retired in the late 90's. I dont recall if it had a date window. I guess I can call Bechtel in SF he did work there (SF) in the 60's and early 70's. If I can find out any more info on the watch I will post it and hope that you all can offer some assistance. I do have a copy of the Will, I guess I need an Attorney but was hoping to set a value on the watch before hand.
Thanks again for your help. topmill Semper Fi |

hi topmill...thanks for your service...i'm a military retiree, and really hope your story has a happy ending...my dad was given an engraved Longines Hall of Fame "A" watch for his retirement in 1955...I looked it up, and the original price was $74.50...but as you stated, it's not the money...having a remembrance of a wonderful guy is what it's all about...
