Radiotherapy
Hi everyone,
Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone who prayed for my mother and sent her positive thoughts and energy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Unfortunately, my mother has been advised by her doctors that the cancer may have spread, so they have suggested chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Chemotherapy was ruled out due to the side effects and my mother's overall health, so they are pushing for radiotherapy. However, the surgeons believe they got all of the cancer and even suggested that knowing how my mother reacts to treatment (if there's an adverse effect, she'll have it) that she could say no to the treatment. She's pretty scared and has lost faith in her doctors as they seem unable to actually tell her if the cancer has really spread or not. They are suggesting the treatment as a preventative measure in case the surgeons didn't get all of it. The treatment they are suggesting is three full days, with rods inserted and no visitors. However, the side effects that have been explained have terrified her. Does anyone have any experience dealing with radiotherapy? Any advice and experience you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I will continue to keep her and you in my prayers, my friend. The side effects can be scary, but remember not everyone experiences them. You have to weigh the risks vs the benefits. God Speed on her recovery.

I had radiotherapy when the cancer came back after I had my prostate removed, it was different to what you describe for your mother. I had to go 20 times on consecutive days, I was told that it would affect differently on different people, I sailed through the treatment with what I thought was ease, afterwards was when it kicked in though, I was exhausted for IIRC months, it was also very painful when I went to sit down at the toilet, but that was probably where the radiology targeted my body, I still have problems but not that would affect a women.
I'm sorry that I can't be any more help, but your mother and the wish of a speedy recovery for her are sent post haste.

Check out the website for the company BrainLab. They offer radiotherapy called Novalis and it has been picking up steam for the last several years. Their website gives some pretty good details of treatments and side effects.

Thanks for all the information and support everyone.
My mother has decided not to have the treatment because the potential side effects could trigger another stroke. While I'm worried, I understand and support her decision. Fingers crossed that three months from now she gets the all clear. Thanks again everyone.
