A good beater

Can anybody recommend good beater for me in the 3rd-2nd tier manufacture (ex. between Tag and PAM) range? It can be a Rolex or not, it doesn't really matter, but I really feel, that after selling my GMT II, my PO, my Tag, AND my Breitling (I really gotta update my signature), I feel like that spot is missing in my collection. Keep in mind I have a smaller wrist.

Any recommendations guys?

I regularly rotate between my rolex, pam, tag, and baume mercier.... for me they are all beaters.... however, my tag aquaracer is the best beater for its price and quality....

You can find a nice pre-owned one for around 3k, it's perfect for a small wrist.

But a fraction of the price and just as brilliant in my opinion...automatic, waterproof, chrono, date....what more could you possibly need? (ok, don't say it, a 24 hour function for travel )

Yes, but will it dwarf my wrist? That's part of the reason the Breitling and the PO had to go. (7 inch wrist)

And to Kyle, I love the Explorer I, but can it take a hit?

Well I dropped it on the floor a couple of times when I first got it, it has some dents and dings but it still runs nicely.

Wood floor? That's a Rolex for ya! They're pretty hard to take down. I originally got my Mark XVI as a beater, but I'm unsure what kind of abuse it can take.

Yeah, from about 2 or 3 feet. It mostly happened when I tried to take pictures of the Explorer.

IWC Mark XVI. A nice classic watch with a deep history. Should set you back not more than US$3K from the AD.

I'd wear the 14060M you already have as a beater and use the funds for the next watch that catches your eye.

I have this weird emotional attachment to my 14060M, I keep it in pristine condition. (This is unlike me, I wear the *##$ out of my watches, a habit I'm trying to break by designating one beater)

Sorry, no idea. This is the watch I am contemplating buying now (Php150K, about over US$3K here) so you have more experience with it than me. Other option would be another pre-owned Rolex.

The watch has a brushed finished so it should be "more resistant" to minor scratches and it was built for military use. As a daily beater the strap would have to be changed every two years or so (about US$200 here for a new one). My one concern is that the service cost at the AD seems to be higher than Rolex (at least locally).

Well, the MSRP around here is 3.5k, but I got a discount down to 3k. I'm really sort of afraid to test the durability on this one, as I have no prior experience with IWC.

I'd have a hard time considering any Rolex a "beater." A beater to me is a $100.00 Wenger or Timex. Something you'd wear cutting the grass or working on the lawnmower. If you're looking for a more casual watch consider a pre owner Omega or maybe a new Stowa.

I used a Seiko Monster as a beater and I mean I beat on it. It never missed a beat or lost accuracy. I honestly believe that Seiko makes some of the best watches around at any price point.

The Seiko SKX 007 model on the jubilee is beautiful and rugged. You cant go wrong with a nice Seiko if you want to save your higher end stuff from the daily grind.

why not get your old signature back they are good ones

Air King on a 6.5 inch wrist. Small and unobtrusive, it hardly ever gets banged up. Plus, because of its size, I really appreciate when I put one of the sport watches on.

Hmmm, my Sub Date is my beater--it'll withstand anything (so far).

The AD has lent me an Oris Classic Date in rose gold/SS that makes a nice dress watch. It seems quite robust and is waterproof to 50 metres. I know nothing else about it except the price seems OK and I find it attractive on my wrist.
