I went to Paris and fell in love with Cartier. The Calibre de Cartier to be exact!
Hello all!
I am a long time lurker of the Rolex Forums despite not being a Rolex owner To be honest, I am quite a Rolex fan and I do hope that my first Rolex will come along soon (eyeing on the Deep Sea ). Anyway, I'd like to share with you guys my latest souvenir from Paris - the Calibre de Cartier in SS. This baby is smoking hot and I've always drooled after it since Cartier launched its mega promotion campaign on the web and prints. Being a self-acclaimed WIS, I am fascinated by Cartier's first fully in-house automatic movement. This detaches the brand's reputation from just being a jeweler to a well respected manufacture status. Spec-wise it's pretty good, 27 jewels, 48 power reserve etc (Google "Calibre de Cartier review" if you're interested in the technical stuff). The size at 42mm is perfect for my rather large wrist and the dial is just awesome in my opinion. A mixture of Cartier's distinctive roman numerals and hour markers is pure genius. The date window is pretty unconventional but that gives the watch a unique character. What makes this watch even more special to me is that I purchased it from Cartier's historic flagship boutique in Paris at 13 Rue de la Paix. The store was majestic and the service I received was one of a kind. They actually brought me champagne and chocolates to celebrate my small purchase (most customers at that boutique spend five to six figure on stones and watches made of precious metal)!! You do get a special edition box as well. And yes I've paid the full price-tag as they did not offer any discount. The experience was well worth it though. That's it from me! Enjoy the pics and have a nice day/evening. Cheers, Ben P.S. The watch has got its own website: http://www.calibre.cartier.com |

Since the "edit" button seems to not be working, let me add...
I've always admired Cartier's designs, after all, they are one of the world's most iconic jewelers. But the Cartiers I thought were the nicest looking, the Tank, the Santos, and even the Autoscaph (RIP) just couldn't quite cross the bridge between "a piece of jewelry that tells time" and a "timepiece." I just couldn't fathom paying those prices for a watch that while beautiful, was mechanically and structurally outdone by comparably (or even lesser) priced Omegas, Rolexes, Panerais and IWCs. Today, I got a glimpse of a piece that has changed my mind about that. Perhaps they decided to take their watchmaking to the next level amidst rumors (confirmed?) that ETA would no longer supply movements, or perhaps they wanted to bring a different kind of guy into the Cartier camp. Regardless, a job well done! |

Thank you all for your kind compliments. I'm sure the folks at Cartier are over the moon with their latest innovation. Like many of you, I've never been much of a Cartier fan. I've always viewed them as overpriced fashion/jewellery themed watch brand, however the Calibre range has totally shifted my perspective.
