Replacement Case
I need thoughts, opinions, arguments...anything on the topic of buying a Rolex with a replacement case.
My point is I'm looking at a 16750 all original except the case has been replaced, no papers. No serial number......but it had an "R" with 3 numbers in place of the serial number. How does Rolex authenticate/service/repair watches with replacement cases? Anyone have any experience with this. What should you look for? Most threads on the forum are about all original watches....... thanks in advance

Be real carefull!
Replacement cases are usually marked 4.4 or 4.7 million serials. Also a replacement case without the paperwork to prove it makes the watch worth less a tremendous ammount of money. In fact it won't have more value than the value of its movement, bezel and bracelet. Jack |

Without full documentation from RSC I would not be interested. Also, as stated already, I believe the s/n should start with a 4 for replacement cases.

replacement cases are not uncommon on early watches... the caseback sealing area was prone to corrosion.
The only place that a replacement case comes from, is the RSC, and so.. if authentic, then they would know if it was genuine or not.. There is nothing wrong with a re-cased watch, except of course, for collectors who are collecting only original and pristine examples.. A new case can be the difference between a functional time-piece and a non-functional paperweight..

So Larry, this is not for collectors purposes.......strickly for my own pleasure. If the watch gets opened up....is there anyway to tell inside that the case comes from a RSC? There is no documentation with the watch... As a few other members stated...should there be any type of serial number on the case? And how is a replacement case identified this way. The seller was honest and told me it was a replacement....I just want to make sure its a RSC replacement...... Thanks in advance

Replacement cases use to start with 44XXXXX so a R and 3 digits are not good IMHO.
