Question on RSC bracelet Replacement
It's always been my understanding (and it says so right on the RSC service quote form) that any parts the RSC installs are done on an exchange basis only. What if someone wanted to have a new bracelet installed and rather then sending the watch in intact with the old bracelet, they just sent in the head of the watch and requested a new bracelet installed?
Would Rolex charge the same price or more if there was no 'exchange' bracelet, especially on a bracelet containing gold or platinum?

You get no exchange credit. if you want to keep the old, do not send it with the watch

I believe Rolex throws out everything they replace , don't think they refurbish anything . So there is no replacement value as such .

When I had a new TT Jubilee bracelet installed on my 1987 DJ 16013 in late October last year, the price for the new bracelet installed at the RSC was $1,950 and they kept my old one. The AD looked up and told me the retail price for my new bracelet was just north of $2,700, but the AD does not take the old one. Apparently, ADs are not set up to do the exchange like the RSC does. It is my understanding that Rolex does recover the gold. That would only make sense at $1218 per ounce. I doubt the SS bracelets have much if any trade in value.
By the way, the retail for the new style solid link TT Jubilee was around a thousand dollars more.

Ok.........so hypothetically if someone had an older 18K Sub and wanted the RSC to install a new 18K service bracelet, it would certainly be in their best interest to keep the old bracelet if the replacement cost is the same with or without an exchange, because the old bracelet is worth a few thousand dollars alone in gold melt value, right?

For example. They were going to give me like 70 or so dollars for my C&I bracelet lol..
There is exchange credit for many parts, bezels and bracelets to name a few. In a rare case you might be able to get them to give you the trade in credit for a part and let you keep the old. Just be nice to the manager at the RSC :). Cannot say for sure about gold, but I heard once they give you the credit for weight of the gold. In the US, the RSC is the only place to get a bracelet (officially). An AD cannot do it, they have to send it to the RSC. |
