I'm surprised, Frans!!

SPAM has been around for as long as I can remember. I even ate it in Iran way back in the '70s and it's quite freely available in NZ supermarkets.

Was there some restriction on the importation of this product into Holland?

JJ

I know. Unilever (Unox) has had his own version of this stuff here for ages so perhaps there was no demand. I found it today in a Chinese supermarket who have a huge section of imported goods. It tasts the same as the Unox version all be it more salty.

Indeed: World War II saw the largest use of Spam, since fresh meat was difficult to get to the soldiers on the front. GIs started eating Spam for breakfast, lunch and supper. Some soldiers referred to Spam as 'ham that didn't pass its physical' and 'meatloaf without basic training'. (From Wiki).

That is surprising, Frans. I would have though that the Yanks would have brought the stuff along when they dropped into Eindhoven.

Which reminds me, I think the one I stock up for emergency last year needs to be throw away by now...

not sure if they are still good but I am not going to try it to find out.
