It was sent the day after it arrived at the AD, so I guess Rolex is still using the pre-random S/Ns on the Subs. I have not yet even taken it out of the box.

Yep, the one we received at the shop had a V293XXX designation.

Just picked up my 116610LN today and it has the old serial number V88XXXX

kind of cool in a way as I bought a 16610 a few months ago with the new random serial number.

so I have the new watch with the old serial and the old watch with a new serial

My desire was for a V9xxxxx.

For the Sub-c, I wanted a 'last of the last' non-random s/n.
If you make your requests known, no returns necessary!

Well for once have to totally agree with you, no other brand gets this case serial hysteria nonsense other than Rolex.Out of the millions upon millions of Swiss,European,and Asia produced watches annually. Rolex is the only one as far as I know where the case stamp is more important than the watch.Its only a approximation when a case was stamped the main part the movement could be older or newer made or visa versa.I wonder what would happen if someone on the internet cracked the movement code.And then someone opened the case to find the movement was made a year before the case was stamped.

Yes it will mean something you have a V9XXXXX 16610 sub,much like the rest of the millions of 16610 subs except for a letter or so.In over 30 years around Rolex watches I have never seen any Rolex become collectible or more valuable because of a case serial or letter.
