Quality control issues on my 16610LV dial

Hey guys,

I just found a small problem on my 16610LV dial! If you look closely to the 12 o'clock marker (the big triangle) you'll be able to see three small dents on the white gold border, two on the right hand side and one on the left.

Are these common/normal? Since i bought it less than a month ago do you think I should claim the warranty and ask RSC Sao Paulo to exchange the dial for me? Can they performe maintenance on the dial?

Have the RSC replace the dial....IMHO

Personally, I would have them replace the dail as that's unacceptable - it doesn't look good and I suspect it will continue to bother you in the long run. Also, consider that today the manufacturing/machining tolerances are much better and the ability to fabricate pieces with precision and quality is much greater than 30 years ago - so again, this is unacceptable I think.

I supposed one advantage of far-sightedness over age 50 is that you can't see something that small, so it wouldn't bother me

Almost looks like a little extra lume creeping up on the surrounds.......
If it bothers you,take it in!!!

Looks like its only visible under magnification though.

This is one of the reasons I threw out my loupe.

This is shoddy craftsmanship for such a quality brand such as Rolex..and at the price they charge this should NOT be occuring.

Sanity Control Issues

If everyone takes their watch back for baby complaints like this, Rolex may stop offering service and support altogether. Then where will we be?




To the OP: Dude, you should be thrilled. You have something that's a tiny bit unique.




P.S. Has anyone noticed that all the markers on every GV are a little irregular? And they all look terrific. But it sounds like many in this thread would "take them back."




P.P.S. If no one had these effing digital cameras, would we have to listen to so many hysterical complaints?

I respectfully disagree...

We all spend a lot of money (at least for some of us) for the craftmanship and "perfection" of a Rolex time piece, it shouldn't have an obvious flaw like this one. I don't think it's being a baby to want this issue fixed or replaced, it would drive me nuts knowing that it is not the way it should be.

Instead of Rolex not offering service, I think these issues being brought to their attention will make them check the manufacturing process and quality control a little closer - each mistake costs them money.

Don't blame the digital cameras, now we are just able to see the flaws.
It's like all the people complaining that umpires suck in baseball now...thye are no worse then they used to be, we just all have 50" HD TV's and super slow motion replays so we can see missed calls. Same thing with digital cameras, the imperfections were always there, now we see them.

If it's under warranty, send it in and ask them to make the watch to the specs it was designed to be made to. I am sure Rolex doesn't want you wearing a watch that isn't the best representation of their brand, this won't help the image or future sales.

it's normal.. maxi dials are more common with this.. its lume over drip. the lume bezels are fine. both of my LVs had this same problem and my one LV still has it.

i have sent my first LV into service before because of a very small scratch going through the "S" on the "Swiss Made" at the bottom of the dial.. they did nothing, said it did not effect the function of the watch and to be honest i dont think they even looked at it or cared.

That's why you have to use the 10X loupe once and never again.

That is the time you are buying your BNIB watch. This way you are avoiding upseting situations with the RSC or with people that think that this is an hysterical complaint especially when these people happens to work at RSC.

When I buy something, i want to be perfect. What is wrong with that and why I have to live with something that doesn't make happy especially when it's not my fault and I have spent my hard earned money?

Hahaha. I have a few loupes, but never use them.

Can't really see it in the first pic, which is basically a naked eye pic. Probably would not bother me. But if it bothers you, take it back and have it corrected.

Have to agree afraid lupes today sometimes can be a Rolex watch wearers worst enemy.

I am firmly in the "don't worry about it" camp. Though Rolex uses robotic technology, a lot of the work is still done by hand, and not every piece is going to be exactly the same, and some might have what some would call minor flaws.

Rolex watches are extremely well designed, durable, have a high degree of longevity, are made entirely in house and have classic design. This is really what you are paying for. No one said that each piece is flawless.

Remember that though it is an expensive watch (perhaps too expensive for their original purposes), they are relatively inexpensive for a watch with an in house movement or compared to the competition in general. Check out what a BlancPain 50 Fathoms cost, or a Glashutte Original Sport Evolution. Or even a Panerai.

That's what I always did. Look it over, with the naked eye, closely. Check the function of the hands, how they align, roll the date wheel, I even set the time against a quartz and check again in 30 minutes. If it passes the screening, it's not likely to have to go back. I've done the same thing with watches I've ordered online. They remain intact with all stickers, etc until thoroughly screened.

Perhaps Rolex should start grading there watches like diamonds FL IF,VVS1 VVS2,VS1,VS2,SI1 SI2 and so on.Anything thats mass produced today will show on some completed units a few very minor flaws.Yes it should not happen but even Rolex is not perfect all of the time.

I refuse to look at my watches under any type of magnification. Naked eye or nothing. I couldn't take it truthfully, especially with vintage.

I would not get worked up myself. Many would.

Maybe you should inspect closely under mag BEFORE you buy, that reduces the chance of disappointment.

At the end of the day it is jewelry, and jewelry IS held to a higher standard. However, after you accept the item, I'm not so sure the RSC needs to address every microscopic flaw. You can avoid all this by looking at the time of purchase and not accepting flaws. The dealer can get you a new watch, they need the sale. It keeps it their problem.

OMG, that thing is junk! Did you buy it on Canal St. in NYC for fifty bucks?

Realistically, if people start bringing Rolexes back for 'flaws' that literally can't be seen except under magnification and insisting they 'correct' the flaw under 'warranty', it will end up costing me more for service on MY Rolexes.

Can we get serious here, guys? There really is no such thing as 'perfection', no matter what ad copy says. If you magnify anything enough, you can find microscopic discrepancies in the surface finish. There has to be a saw-off point where it isn't realistic to complain about it and insist it be 'fixed'.
