spotted a fake while playing poker
Last night I went to a friends house for a poker game. There is the usual group of people there but this new guy was wearing a phony Platinum Yachtmaster. How could I tell it was fake? The dial was not the metallic dial the platty should be, it was extremely reflective and way too dark. Didnt have any metal flake in the dial either.
I thought about saying, "hey, what kind of watch is that?" but it was the first time meeting him and I didnt want to make hime look like a fool. After he left, I told my buddy about it and he said he had noticed it was a fake (my buddy has a TT Yachtmaster)

No, I lost $10 in about 3 hands and then went outside and continued to drink and BS. But I do love it too and noticed a few guys had real Rollies, an Omega and something else that looked expensive.

Poker is great. Make we can start calling them "bluff watches" that are easy to read.
Also surprised this thread had lasted this long. Thought we did not discuss fakes. Anyway, good luck next poker game! |

You have to wonder how some people get so stupid they think everyone else is too
stupid to notice their 'Rolex' is a cheap fake. It's like these guys you see wearing a cheesy toupee that looks like a hat, it doesn't even match the color of the hair they do have...

Good man, I would have asked question about the watch to see if he realized it was a fake. I hate fakes!

Funny, I met with the VP of a property management company this week....he was rocking a pretty awful Breitling for Bentley. I wanted to ask how he liked the "Breitling" but I didn't have the heart to call him on it.

Before I came to TRF I would not have know a fake if it hit me in the face!
A few years ago I was at a friend’s house for a BBQ. I was talking with a group of people and I noticed this guy had on a TT Sub, I was wearing my Explorer. I said how do you like the submariner I almost bought one but decided on the Explorer instead. He then became weird and kept turning his wrist inward so I could not see the watch. I had never met him he was a friend of a friend so I let it go and didn’t say anything to him for the rest of the afternoon. Knowing what I know now I think it might have been a fake.

While waiting for my car to be serviced yesterday a lady in the waiting room was showing to her friend a "Rolex" she had just purchased at a garage sale. I showed her the Submariner I had on and she showed the "Rolex" to me and I told her that it wasn't a very good fake. She became quite indignant. My mistake, I should have let her believe what she wanted to believe.

Nah, the tourbillion fakes just crack me up, at least his was the standard blue face, wrong pointers on the wrong subdials with the big second hand sweeping away. At least to the non-discerning person it looks passable.
