I think that JJ's a couple hundred miles away in Auckland, but the photos show significant damage in Christchurch.

JJ should be ok. The earthquake was in Christchurch, at least 1 hour away from Auckland (by air) so that's like several hundred km apart.

Thanks for all your concern, guys. I'm in the North Island; but the quake occured in Christchurch which is quite a long way off in the South Island, so we up here didnt feel a thing.
Much property damage reported with a few serious injuries, but fortunately no loss of life. Trust it's all sorted out soon. JJ

I hope there aren't any injuries and not too much property damage.
I saw some pictures of damaged buildings but I know from my own experience that earthquakes can look worse on the news than on the ground in the area, as the news naturally concentrates on the areas with the most damage . . . hope that's the case in Christchurch. |
