Traditionalists and Rolex
How many of you Rolex fans are also fashion traditionalists when it comes to clothes and shoes (Brooks Brothers, J. Press, Allen Edmonds, Alden Shell Cordovan etc.....) ???

Arturo - Conservative. My customary apparel - dark blue jeans, black shirt or black t shirt, black or brown leather jacket, Ferragamo or similar, or blue blazer. Allen Edmonds shoes, for sure!
The watch hides under the sleeve and makes brief but spectacular appearances. I don't flaunt the Rolex, but it's there. Oh yes, it's there... Larry. |

I mentioned the companies only to express the nature of the traditionalist style to which I was referring. I don't care what the label is....was just wondering how many of you were trads.

Depends on the venue, I suppose. To work I'll wear a pattern dress shirt and slacks, with slick dress shoes. I'm a big fan of Banana Republic, Ralph Lauren and Bruno Magli for work. For the evenings I'll switch it up to some denim (Seven for All Mankind or Citizens of Humanity) and a low-key pair of pattern Vans and a t-shirt under a track jacket or hooded sweatshirt if I'm casual, or a Lacoste or Polo under a light wool blazer if we're "dressing up."
Okay, I'm going to stop now. |

Arturo, I appreciate your good taste and affection for more traditional styling, as well. In fact, I have been a life-long fan of Allen Edmonds, Aldens, Johnston and Murphy, and, Colehaan shoes. Be it a wingtip, loafer, or, Italian dress shoe, these said manufacturers are awesome in my book! And, in suits, sport coats and slacks, I do prefer Italian styling. And, a french cuff shirt is a must for me. But, I am also a button-fly, western boots (ostrich, alligator, teju-lizard) aficionado that also appreciates black BDU's, polo shirts, athletic T's, and, a great pair of hiking boots, any day!

Converse sneakers, faded levis 501 jeans, blue
oxford cloth button down collar shirts or long sleeve tee shirts or LaCoste tennis shirts, either thrift shop jackets that I have had retailored or I have my sport jackets custom made. For dressing up I wear old khakis or cords in place of levis, and dark brown ecco shoes in place of sneakers. I also have a 20 year old pair of gray wool slacks that sometimes get to walk around and two neckties that get used about once a year.

I like the "classic" look of jeans, a polo, and my Dr. Marten boots.

For casual times, I wear chinos or jeans, cordovan loafers by Alden or Allen Edmonds, usually an open collar shirt by Brooks...slim fit kind. I used to always wear the button down shirts but have gone away from them as an open ainsley or straight point shirt is more flattering and slimming than the button downs that tend to push a guy's neck out. I wear sports coats mostly by Aboud (Abboud???) with the jeans or chinos. I have an affinity for Father Knows Best Cardigans.
For work and dress, I wear bow ties 1/4 of the time...when I have to slurp up chowder or soup. Regular ties otherwise. I like Robert Talbot and Brooks ties. I wear generally grey Brooks or Abboud suits preferably with 3 buttons for court or work. I like Allen Edmonds long wings and Bal Caps for dress shoes. I have gotten away from the chinos/bomber jacket routine. That makes men look egg shaped and is unflattering. A trim guy will look stocky, and a stocky guy will look simply fat. So, I wear more sports coats than ever before. They hold a line, are sophistocated, and go with jeans or anything. You can dress them up or down, and they look great with the right collar. Now a Rollie under the cuff. I do not wear ascott cravates as such would be a true affectation on someone under the age or 55. Something to look forward to I suppose. |

I'm just an average guy, who wears jeans and T-shirts. Rolex is my biggest indulgence.

Jeans and t shirts are very traditional. Do you wear 501's, wranglers or other kinds of jeans. I have 3 pairs of 501's and my daughter gave me some shredded "destroyed" Abercrombie jeans that I am figuring how to wear....I think I am supposed to let them hang below the middle of my butt and let my boxers show.

JJ,
You need the job of official New Zealand cleavage inspector. We all know you have the qualifications and political skills to serve as the Mammary Minister. |

I will someday post a pic of me with the Abercrombies hanging low with Rolex on wrist. Maybe if I can get that together, and JJ can inspect.
