Hello Experts,

I came across a friend of mine who has a Submariner Date D Series. He is the original owner, has the receipt and all and purchased the watch brand new in March 2006. All the original documents are enclosed including boxes, papers, etc. He is going through some things right now and needs to get rid of watch and offered to sell it to me for $3850. Is this a good price, it was his daily watch so it needs a polish, how much would that run? Any advice would appreciated, thanks!!

If it's in good condition, that's a decent price.

If he needs the money I would low-ball him and offer 3k cash.

Depends on how good of a friend. 3k is probably better than going to a pawn shop. and it leaves some wiggle room if he wants to start negotiating.

Seen a couple go for $3,300-$3,600 fairly recently. You may be able to find one for a little bit less, but it sounds pretty fair to me. As far as driving him into the ground on the price, I still believe that what goes around comes around........

Edit post: I have not seen any D serials go that cheap, but I may have missed it. The ones I was thinking of were X, K, and Y serials.

Hes pretty firm at 3800-3850, i had a sub no date before but ended up selling it. I have recently acquired two other watches that i ended up buying new and this 3800 is within my price range. I was just thinking should I hold out and wait or pick this one up? thanks guys

I say pick it up. You know the history of the watch and condition. You will also help a friend and get a great watch.

I agree. It is always an advantge to know "where the watch came from".

As others have said, seems a fair price. Also if its a watch you want and can afford and want to help a mate who needs help.... Well say no more...
