Do you take off or leave on?

Every time I travel I always find my self deciding whether to take off or leave my watch on before going through the metal detector. What do you do?????

I always leave it on. It will trip the alarm maybe one time out of 10. The TSA guy will then usually tell me to go back through with my palms touching together in front of me and it will pass the second time.

I leave it on unless specifically instructed by the TSA agent to remove it and place it in a bin.

I work in airports all over, often going thru the same metal detector multiple times a day. Sometimes the alarm goes off, sometimes it doesn't.

Once, I was in the security line and a TSA lady was yelling TAKE EVERYTHING OUT OF YOUR POCKETS, NO WATCHES, WALLETS, OR ANYTHING FOR THE BODY SCANNER!!!!!! The guy in front of me was wearing a gold Rolex and I watched as he approached the scanner. The TSA lady said "sir, you HAVE to remove your watch". He just shock his head "no". The TSA lady said "ok, then just hold your hands over the scanner when you stand inside.
Why the hell didn't she tell everyone that!!!!!!

I put it in the rolex green pouch and store it in the laptop bag.
I hate to take it off and put it into that nasty bin.

There was a story in the NY Post about a lady who was wearing a gold diamond Rolex. As she approached the metal detector the person told her to take it off. The lady took off her watch put it in a bin and then walked through. When she got her things the watch was GONE!!!!

i usually leave it on my wrist. most times i get away with it if i have long sleeve on.

with short sleeves, sometimes i get asked to take it off - no biggie, it goes into the tray and i see it goes into the scanner before walk through the body scanner. by the time i walk through and give the security dude a nod, my watch is already on the otherside of scanner waiting for me.

i would not argue with the security people over a watch at the airport - cant see the point why id get on the "naughty list" over a watch, Rolex or not

I usually leave it on. It hasn't tripped the alarm yet.

I slip it in my pocket before walking through. The last time was the first time ever it set it off while in my pocket.

Ha; I started this exact same thread a few months ago!

I keep mine on but I hold my left hand in front of my chest to move the watch away from the detector sensors.

I bought an Oakley single watch case which I take if I'm only bringing one watch. I'll put that in my carry-on. If I take more than one watch I put it in a Lois vuitton 3 watch travel case and put that in my carry-on. Both situations it's in a case, in a bag out of theives sight. It also saves me the hassel of looking like the prick who won't take off his watch (which i understand, but i dont have a problem appearing common in most circumstances. I do have a problem looking pretentous). Both cases have been featured in past threads.

I always leave it on, (Rolexes have 'disappeared' from the x-ray belt), and walk through with my arm out in front of me. That way it's away from my belt buckle and won't set off the alarm.

I know some of you have no choice in the matter, but at this stage of my life, I do everything I can to avoid airports.

It is just pathetic what Americans are forced to abide in this day and age.

I thought commercial flying was a pain in the butt when I was in the Marine Corps from '67-'71, with all the military that was flying standby in those days. I used to hate layovers with a passion.

Now, the security thing is enough to make me wretch. Clearly, when I decide to take one of those once in a lifetime trips somewhere, I will undoubted have to fly, but until that day comes, if I can't drive there. Forget it.

And if the normal procedure isn't humiliating enough, when they pull you out for the special scrutiny routine, it's just an outrage. The last two flights I took, I was subjected to that and I don't like it one bit.

I travel a lot and always remove my watch. Typically, I put it in my briefcase along with my wallet. I almost walked off and left a Sub in one of he plastic bins, recently.

I've had little luck making it thru security wearing a watch.
