ADs hoard SS Daytonas! WTF!!!!
So I went to my AD, who has a lot of locations in South Florida (name withheld), and I was sitting in their office waiting. Anyways, I glance over at the computer and see that the Rolex On Hand Inventory is on the computer screen and I am amazed to see that these */*/*/*/(removed by moderator) 3 Rolex SS Daytonas with a white dial and 1 SS Rolex Daytona with black dial on hand ready to sell. Now I am thinking that Rolex is either producing more SS Daytonas or the store is stocking up to sell them for the holidays. Long story short, when they say "we only get 1 every 6 months" IT'S BS... I saw it first hand that they have these watches. For any new buyers looking to get a Daytona I say try to use this forum and buy it from one of the reputable sellers as I should have because it would have saved a lot of $$$. I wish I found this forum before I bought the my SS Daytona but I will write it off as a learning lesson. I got sold on the idea that I was lucky and happened to stumble on an AD with a SS Daytona. My next Sub C, hopefully soon, will be bought from TRF. I am still a Daytona fan but a bit smarter now.
O yea... when the sales lady walked back into the office and noticed that I was reading the computer she quickly brought up a different screen... Are there any AD sales reps here that can attest to this???? Last edited by Welshwatchman; 15 December 2010 at 10:26 PM.. Reason: No effin and jeffin - next time = points. |

I can tell you for sure that my AD does not hoard. They have received a total of 4 shipments this year.

I don't think they hoard them. You don't cant recoup costs and make money by not selling your product. They don't place them in the display case, and they do tend to reserve them good customers.
However it does appear according to accounts on this forum that it has been easier to get one this year. |

I noticed the trend of seeing more ss daytonas being available at ADs. Maybe the next trend will be to see them being discounted?

I work at an AD, and our supply has been very steady. In terms of numbers sold, Daytonas are only just behind Subs and GMTs, and easily outsell (by several times) other watches in the sports line up. The Daytona is not a rare watch, it just has a massive demand.

If they have several locations, the number of Daytonas on hand may have been for all locations. The screen may have been indicating units available for the entire company. Maybe it wasn't the actual number on hand in that store, that day. Maybe ??

8 AD's in Munich and my guess is that 5-6 of them will be able to show you a SS Daytona if you seem serious enough.
Recently I've been asking around for the Explorer II white dial on behalf of a friend, and this model was actually harder to find than SS Daytona... |

I doubt that was SS Daytonas, most AD's commonly have TT's and 18K's ones sitting in the inventory.

Maybe the list the OP saw was for all store locations.

Yeah usually those inventory lists accounts for entire company stocks. My AD had me look through their inventory list and the OP's reminds me of that.
And it could've included Daytonas that were not SS as well.

Still surprised why folks think the SS Daytona's are so elusive??? They can be readily found here in the city at AD's and over here on TRF. Just reach out to DavidSW and you will have one overnight.

Correct about top sellers here..
But 4 days for Oz :) Our AD told me they have a 4 year waiting list for the white SS. They know I have one...so was no sales pitch. So...seems lots of people in Perth want one. But there just aren't enough....

I think they still carry some of that allure of being hard to get, and at least here in Boston, but thats mostly because they still aren't prominently displayed in store shelves. Certainly they are "readily" available in this forum's fine for sale section. However, if you walk into any stores that carry Rolex in the Boston area, you'll be hard-pressed to see a SS Daytona, especially white face. I was in Ross Simons in the Pru shopping plaza the other day (HUGE Rolex selection) and they had 8 or so gold Daytonas - beautiful! I think the new elusive Daytona seems to be the rosegold one. What a beauty that is!

thats quite normal for larger Rolex ADs.
as much as they want to make 116520 an exclusive watch, we all know thats BS. many ADs would make you to buy a more expensive/full precious metal Rolex watch to "allow" you to buy a 116520 from them.... |

I rarely see SS daytonas at AD's in MD but a friend of mine recently went to king of prussia mall and spoke to a women who owns a few stores and she told him that Daytonas are rare and any daytona sold online is fake....funny thing is I have seen so many 116520 being sold on TRF and TZ its unreal.
"Rare" once upon a time, online does not mean fake! |

I think what was said above is the most accurate take, that there isn't a shortage of Daytona's per se, it's just that the demand for them is high. That's what is going to drive the price up. I'm sure some AD's help that process along by not displaying the watches, but mostly I think it's just a simple case of supply and demand.

Mine last said he had a couple in the safe. For local customers only he won't sell out of the area and no discount. He won't display them.

Like I said in my OP I wish I found TRF before buying! I would have went to David SW to get mine. O well... next time. And the inventory was for that specific store as it stated the store numbers inventory. |

I live in North East England and the AD in both Newcastle and Middlesbrough are BOTh quoting 7 year waiting lists still, both have 15 waiting and say they will only get 2 per year (1 white/1 black) and Will NOT accept any more on the waiting list.
One also said a new Daytona model might be coming out next year so this list will become null and void and the process will start over. |

I think thats somebody just needs a big hug............
So what if a Dealer has some Daytonas in inventory and didn't paint it on their front store window......... That hardly constitutes a "hoard".. What I do know is that if I walk into my AD and ask for a Daytona, they walk immediately over to the computer, bring it up and tell me what is available for purchase that day...... anywhere in their multi-state district.. And, If I ask for a specific model, they give me a call whenever there is one that comes in, although sometimes there are several others on the 'call list" ahead of me... I'll bet a donut that there are good Sales Staff there who know how many Daytonas are available and have their own client list that they will be calling if one is available for sale....

you can easily sell your Daytona and buy one from a TRF seller to take advantage of that 2/3 price..... lets see if anyone here would offer you the 0% finance so it'd allow you to enjoy the watch as well as invest the watch money at the same time? just a thought. |
