Not too many Milgauss GV for sale
How come we don't see many Milgauss GV's or even the regular ones for that matter for sale. Is it because they are in shortage right now. Atleast that is what i was told from one AD

Not in as short a supply as your AD would have you believe, yes they were in very short supply a few years back and yes the GV at least were i live does not stay instore for long but the regular models are much easier to come by and in all honesty looking around on the net can very quickly find you a GV.

Well, I would doubt that there is a shortage, although they aren't made in as many numbers as other models....
Some watches are bought and kept.. Others are bought at the spur of the moment, then the buyer flips and moves on.. For the former, the Milgauss is one of those watches, as are Daytonas and Presidents.. They may have only one or two owners in their life-times.. For the latter, Subs and GMT's are the ones that are populoar and that may have a dozen owners in as many years..

My AD in Tallahassee has three in his case that he can't sell even with discounts...definitely not a shortage. The GV is in a little bit more demand, and thte ADs that do have them are not discounting...

my AD had one of each in stock as well. But was telling me one it is going his next allocated piece will come in August 2011. May be a tactic of not discouting them.

My AD has them, I have one which I am selling shortly.
They are out there! Don't let an AD lie to push you into a sale or charge you too much.

A little whisper that abounds is that the Milgauss will be removed from the Rolex catalogue come 2011/12, and that they will "dribble" through the supply chain for a while longer, then ....
Vague but interesting(ish).

Both of my AD's have at least one of each Milgauss in their cases and I know for a fact the one AD has more in their safe Not a shortage whatsoever. I believe the advice from Larry was spot on they it is not as common for someone to flip this watch

Hmmm that would mean it would be around for the same amount of time that the LV was so it does have some weight behind it.

I, for one, would be very surprised at that. Whilst the non-GV variants haven't been big sellers, the GV has done very well. I think there are much worse selling models in the Rolex lineup, the TOG for example. But then again, who really knows but Rolex themselves?

I really dont think they will discontinue the GV in 2012. It wont make good business sense. It is not a bad seller at all. Atleast i dont think it is.

Rolex has previously "retired" both iterations of the Milgauss, though the 1019 did have a fairly long production life.

I was at my AD earlier this week and they had a GV in stock. He happened to mention that everybody wants this particuliar one ..I guess he keeps getting more.
He also mentioned that the white dial Milgauss he has in stock has gone unsold for a long time..IMHO, something about the white dial continues to keep me interested:) |

that would be a shame.....i love the black dial, but something tells me that the gv is where it's at. in any event, it's a great range, and it wouldn't make much sense to me for rolex to discontinue them. if i ever get serious about flipping my TT DJ, i think it's quite likely for either a black face milgauss or a PAM 111..... |

I think there is a shortage issue with regards to the GV.
- went to Hawaii this year, visited Ben Bridge and Rolex at Ala Moana. No luck. Went to Rolex Waikiki too. No luck. - visited Wempe in NYC, and I was told they're very very hard to find in the USA altogether. - I recently dealt with a UN Ambassador who was wearing the GV, and I mentioned I was in the market for one. He said the same thing - he looked for months in the USA, and ended up buying his in Singapore. GV has caught on, IMHO. I'm glad people are still able to find them easily, because from what I've experienced they're hard to come by. |

Not scarce but still an allocation watch--AD can't order them.

There's a real lack being advertised on TRF, especially used, I've had my eye on them for a few months looking for a good deal with little showing up.

I'm only guessing but I think the Milgauss is not as popular as say the Sub or GMT Master.
Reason I say this is that every time I peer into ADs' windows or display cases, I don't see S/S Subs or GMTs on display but maybe one time out of three, I do see the Milgauss (not the GV though). |
