Being Discontinued
Hi All - I need a bit of clarification here. There have been a number of statements on recent threads to the effect that some of the SS sports models are going out of production. Is this fact or rumor?
If this is indeed fact, does anybody know which models are being phased out, and when this will occur? I saw my guy at Tourneau yesterday, he was a bit evasive. All he could tell me was that the new models are coming in around July, and that they will be a lot more expensive than the current offerings. Cheers, Larry Goin' out now, will check in later... |

The only thing I've heard specifically is that the current GMT-II is being phased out in favor of the anniversary model, and all the discussions I had with local AD's confirm that.
I've heard some "talk" that the Explorers and SD's will be going the way of the dinosaur after Basel in 2009, but you can never know for sure. Either way I still have plenty of time to pick up that white-face Ex-II!! |

You'll land on your feet soon enough. They'll say to themselves "this guy seems a little whacky, but with that nice watch, he MUST know what he's talking about!" As to the rumour, THE classic Sub is the SS model. I can't believe that could be slated for discontinuation." |

However, if and when it does, rest assured the prices will reach obscene levels. I really have no problems with their present bracelets and clasps. Grab it while you can still afford it, I say. JJ

Thanks for your input JJ! Everything going up! Makes sense to buy from AD at discount before price increase for new bracelet and clasp!

Currently the only reference to be discontinued is the 16710.
The 14060M is being "upgraded" to COSC specs. and will, I assume, reflect that on the dial. |

Agree with you JJ, That is sure ugly!!
Here's something to think about: sales of the Air-king may be so bad-it may someday be very collectable due to low production numbers! |

Thanks for the info guys - it sounds as though nothing is definite yet, as far as stopping production on most models.
However, from what I and some others of us have gleaned, the strategy of Rolex seems to be to put in numerous upgrades to justify hefty price increases, which may be just around the corner. BTW, JJ, I too am getting something of a hankering for the white Exp.ll, and am wondering how much time remains before they "upgrade" it into the high reaches of the ozone layer... Larry. |

Take a week holiday, fly ot KL Malaysia, see the sights, eat some great food and buy an Explorer II. The Hour Glass Chain in KL is one of the best ADs I have been to.
