Chances of a new SUBMARINER? (no date)
ie. 3187 movement, ceramic dial, most probably maxi case and even 42mm?
how about colour options.. like with blue, green inserts. would you be interested. and do you reckon it will happen? |

Well, I seriously doubt it would have a 3187 in, as that's a GMT based movement with a date. However, if they do decide to release a new Sub, it's likely that it will be heavily based on the 116610, probably sticking with cal. 3130.

My guess is they will bring out something new soon since the 14060 m doesn't gel with the rest of the line up.
I'll try to keep an open mind but, if the latest model updates are anything to go by, I'll hate it!

i dunno... the 14060 is the closest they have to an actual "tool watch" left in their lineup. they may leave it as is for that fact alone.
/i'm sorry; an $8,000 sub-c is not a tool watch!

One never knows with Rolex. Any guess is as good as mine. The 14060 is the one link to the Sub of old.....

Well like others have said the 3187 is a GMT watch movement but hardly a new movement. It was first a 3185 they added the slightly modded detent gears then called it a 3186 movement its now very very slightly thicker. Now they have added there own paraflex shock system to a 3186 and call it a 3187.But deep down all the complete mens size Rolex oyster watches except the chronos, are all based on the base cal 3135.All they do is add or take out complications this movement was introduced in 1988/9.And has remained unchanged except now some boast the in-house escapement parts.Myself hope they leave the 14060m well alone except for a SEL bracelet and perhaps the new type clasp.

i don't know if the price is what makes one a tool and the other not a tool....after all, the 14060 retails for over $6K. cheap and sturdy aluminum bezel + lug holes + light bracelet + time-tested simple and tough clasp makes it a tool. then again, we're talking rolex here, so, "tool watch" left the building a long time ago. |

The 16610 & 14060 were sold side by side....................I think Rolex will update the
14060 in the future to have same case/lug/crown guard.......ceramic bezel, new bracelet/clasp as the 116610.....no date...they will be sold side-by-side again....116610 & 114060. Maybe Rolex will keep the lug holes?

It is the last of a special breed. I guess because of that it'd be nice if they left it an all black watch.

My guess is that they will either update it like the Sub C or discontinue it. Only Rolex knows.

I think that Rolex keeps the 14060 the way it is as a classic depicting the roots of their icon Sub from the early days.....
No reason to change it, it sells fine, and it still has great looks.. My feeling is that they'll keep it pretty much the way it is (I'm sure that the new 3130 movement will fit just fine) the same way that Omega keeps their old-style Speedy Pro around... I applaud them for their hands-off approach

Like someone else said, I don't think the price has anything to do with whether or not it is a tool watch. Especially at $6,300 now. I would never even use Rolex and tool in the same sentence. Wait...I just did...well you know what I mean!
I think the no date will get the same upgrades as the Date. It doesn't make sense not to. The date and no date have been virtually the same forever. Why stop now?

I'm guessing they are using up parts. Once the 14060 parts are gone, so is the watch and you'll then havea 114060......aka nd subc

The Rolex track record up until now has been to leave the sub alone and change the date version. Debatable whether they are going to now do an about turn on this. |

just a basic theory for the upgrade...
1)ceramic bezel 2)no lug holes 3)expensive and brittle bracelet. 3 strikes your out, get your 14060 while you can just my most humblest of opinions ps i suspect the gmt master will agree with none of this |

I think an update, if done correctly would be fine. An updated bracelet & clasp as well as an updated case, complete with lugholes, no ceramic bezel... Why not???

Looking at Rolex's website they don't even feature the 14060M. The same bracelet as the sub-c would be very nice, with the glidelock clasp. Pretty sure if (they did) they would upgrade it to the squarer case and maxi dial. Imagine if they did it with a 2 liner, but unlikely. They should keep the lug holes.
I tried on a sub-c the other day. The squarer case is not as bad as in the photos, I think I could live with it. The glidelock was the best feature of this watch. Anyways if Rolex do update the Submariner, it will be even more expensive than the current 14060M which is listing retail at US$ 6,300! - so with all the new updates.. $7K+ ?!? Thats a lot to swallow for a SS watch. I'm glad I got my 14060M COSC, maybe one of the last as stocks seems to be drying up at AD's and none of them I have spoken to think it will be replaced. Time will tell I guess.. |

I got a feeling they will update it to go along with the rest of their line up. Only time will tell, I guess we will have to watch what Rolex decides to do.

I am sure Rolex are well aware of the iconic status that the 14060M has for many Rolex enthusiasts, and it would seem unlikely that they would bother changing it if those changes were of a nature that lost its character. If they were going to do that they would surely just discontinue it. Having said that, I could imagine no lug holes, ceramic bezel and most of all the updated bracelet. Hopefully not larger.

Id be hoping for something like a homage of a vintage no date model with the modern updates.
Whatever it is I hope Rolex can bring something out as surprising as the new Titanium Blue PO Omega has unleashed, I will seriously contemplate buying that one. |

having just bought a new 14060 and at my AD I had the new sub c and the one that I bought side by side, it took me 2 seconds to decide the 14060 is a lot better looking watch if you like the classic sub look to a watch...
