Hi James,

I've never bothered in almost 27 years of Rolex owning, wheeling and dealing.

My Submariner has been insured for the last 5 years. It could be also claimed on the house insurance but it would be up to the insurance company to determine the value. My Sub is insured separately for £3500.

My watches and other "toys" are covered under my homeowner's insurance policy. Just have to show proof of ownership (pictures, receipts that I keep in my safety deposit box).

Since I travel for work using my GMT II, and it's the most expensive watch I own, I decided to insure it. I use Jewelers Mutual Insurance on the net. That way if I ever have a claim my homeowners insurance company will not drop me.

Insurance

Hi!

I collect mainly vintage watches and buy from ebay, junk shops, thrift shops and car boot sales. Last year i had my collection valued by a professional valuer and made copies of his valuation.

A few months ago i lost one of my watches [a Breitling picked up in a thrift shop!]. Because i had it valued i was able to claim on my household insurance and they paid up based on the value of a current Breitling watch, since they based their business on "new for old".

Soon i shall be going watch shopping and i am glad i had my watches valued!!

Regards

Tim

Does that affect your Homeowner Insurance (good) standing with the company?

I was warned many times by various people NOT to file claims against my (Homeowner) Insurance unless the loss is very large. Last year, our washing machine went haywire and flooded the whole house. The repairs amounted to around $2000 but we "ate" the loss for fear of a premium increase and worst yet, cancellation. I was told that once it is cancelled, not many other companies will sell you insurance on your house because it has been "black marked". When it is does. very few future buyers will want to "stuck" with an uninsurable house.

It may be all hogwash. I stand corrected if somebody else has different information on this subject.

I had to replace a roof vent for about $ 600.00. My insurance brokers said even though I never missed a payment, never had a claim, my insurance company could drop me.
That's why I use Jewelers Mutual.

Spoke with my insurance and they would do it seperately from homeowners. Would cover loss or theft with no questions asked. I need to ask about damage as I saw an earlier post mention. They said would cost less than $100 a year just need to get it appraised. Does anyone have an recomendations of a store in Houston or Austin Tx.

I have my SS Sub and TT DJ on my homeowners policy as a separate rider. Fairly expensive but your standard homeowners has a small limit on jewelery. I feel I have a very small chance of theft where I live and loss doesn't seem likely. I got it to cover the "idiot factor" if I drop it, or do some other stupid act which I seem to encounter more the older I get. I was an auto insurance adjuster years ago, and the only claims that would cause raised rates, or cancellation were liability claims. It's ridiculous to pay for coverage and not use it IMO.

I don't have that much to insure, but to do so with my house insurance would really increase my premiums.

Speaking with an acquantaince who does have a lot of pieces, the arrangement there is very secure (fire and theft) safes in secure location in the house, with the ownership and documents for the watch in the safety deposit box at the bank.

Mine's really in a shoebox.............

I never leave anything valuable in the house. Sadly, this is the way our society is heading. If you wish to keep what you have, they must go to the bank safety deposit boxes. Even then, they are NOT that safe. My two boxes were inadvertantly drilled open by the bank and I was NOT notified of that until almost 3 months later. Fortunately, most of the contents were accounted for except for a rare coin which I was NOT 100% positive if I did or did not put it in the box.

Our Homeowner Insurance only pays $200 for personal jewelries.

It is ridiculous that we pay our (HOI) premiums on time every month and yet when the times come that the insurance company will have to pay for the losses, they will play all kind of games to either avoid or delay payment. If that fails, it cancels our policy, leaving us out in the cold.

I hated to spend the $500 a year but how can you take a chance with a new president! So for insurance on a lower cost model the cost would be reasonable, you need to protect your investment.

The Walther PPK was James Bond's (Sean Connery that is -- the one and only true Bond!) choice in the earlier films. He chose their then latest model, the Walther P5, for his last film, Never Say Never Again.

They're both beautiful Walthers, the Rolex equivalent for handguns!

Yes. Under homeowners policy. Better coverage than the jewelry insurance I had before. Fewer exceptions to coverage. Go Safeco. When I get a watch, the AD takes a photo and does an immediate insurance appraisal for me in a nice presentation. I drop it off with my agent and add the watch to the coverage.

Didn't James Bond's PPK jammed on him at a very critical moment and that caused him to change his sidearm to a Beretta(sp?)?

Nonetheless, the PPKs are wonderful pistols and so are your photos.

Our watches and other valuables are all well documented with pictures and appraisals and fully insured partly for estate planning and peace of mind.
