A long long season still. We haven't even hit the half way mark and a 1.5 game lead on Boston could evaporate in two days. Don't forget Tampa which has one of the best pitching staffs in the AL and is only 2.5 games back.

I know Colon will be back and he has been solid but I have my doubts if Phil Hughes can right the ship this year. We have to hope AJ Burnett doesn't implode like last year. We also have to hope Garcia and Nova can continue to get it done and they sign another pitcher because we are not going to be winning the division with the likes of Gordon starting for us.

I am actually surprised the Yankees are where they are right now. Let's hope they keep finding ways to win!

They sure were talking trash in 09 when they got off to a good start just as they did this year.
Funny how NY can go 1-8 against them yet now be in 1st place!
They always seem to forget, With the exception of two times in many decades, NY Yankees have thumped the Sox. Again and Again....... The best part is watching them get all excited and confident, then letting the air out of their balloon.

I had intended for there to be some good natured ribbing maybe? maybe a couple jokes and jabs, that is what sports are about. but your attempt to make me feel bad about not giving up my tickets to someone..........again you have no idea about the situation has taken this to far. I feel good for supporting this charity and attempting to do something nice for his family. The child in question will likely not even be able to know about it because of his disease. That to me sir is "trash talking" and classless. I am done with this conversation.

Let me premise this by saying I live in Los Angeles. The red sox are hands down the better team. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the sox 8-1 against the yanks? To the OP I do like your Alec Baldwin quote. However, it's the Yankees who will be watching the playoffs from their couch. Yeah for the Yankees. In 2011 they're spending approximately 197 Million Dollars on their payroll. The Kansas City Royals are spending 36 Million dollars on their payroll.

With the Yanks buying FIVE TIMES the talent of the Royals, I still think the Royals have a real chance at the title.

Well within the last decade the BoSox won two and the yanks won one. Sox fans are focused on the now not what the Yankees did sixty years ago. During the Epstein years it's clear the red sox turned the page. All begining with that oh so sweet humiliation in 04. The sox aren't concerned with the Yankees. They're concerned with the Phillies. They are built to win for years to come. The Yankees are not. It's now the red sox who consider the season a failure without a ring.

The money argument is getting old. If teams want players they have to pay for it and guess what if you have a good team, ticket sales increase along with merchandise sales and on and on. I understand not all teams can have the following like NYC but they can put a heck of a lot better product on the field than they are now. 36 million for Kansas City is ridiculous. That is barely more than revenue sharing money that the team receives. NYC plays within the rules, don't hate the team that takes full advantage of the rules. Hate your team that has greedy owners unwilling to spend the money.

These teams take the renvenue sharing money and pocket it and don't spend a dime more to build a good team. I know Pirates have a better team this year but they have been terrible in the past. It is 100$ the owners fault for not spending money. They received over 70 million in 2008/09 for revenue sharing and their payroll was less than 30 million.

Good teams can be build in smaller markets and can create an incredible following if you put a decent product on the field. Unfortunately that isn't happening.

first of all, there's still a LOT of baseball to be played....

second of all, until very late in the season, i don't really look at the standings, since, for me, so much of the fun is what happens in any given game on any given day....

third, who cares about the red sox?? it's a nice media-driven rivalry, but, imho, there's only one concern for me, as a yankees fan: #28. does this team this year have enough? no....the pitching is a HUGE question mark. but, they've been a pleasant surprise so far, so, i'm enjoying the ride.

let the red sox have their anxiety and inferiority complex and fenway franks.....and carl crawford at $20 million/year in five-six years!

i was lucky, or unlucky, enough to be at game 6 of that series....

anyway, combine the implosion of a suspect pitching staff, a couple questionable torre calls, a bit of bad luck and the steroid-fueled rage of manny & ortiz of boston's offense, and, well, you have the biggest collapse in sports history.

in retrospect, i've accepted that series. one, it's a good lesson in you can't always have what you want. two, i couldn't have taken yet ANOTHER year of red sox fans moaning "i have just one wish, and that is that the red sox win the world series before i die"....that was just so painful and pathetic. oh the heartache!!

Obvously you didn't know about his condition, my point exactly "trash talking" and "I understand" is not, oops I am sorry I am a jerk and should keep my mouth shut.Why dont you donate your corvette or your sub to charity.......oh wait its not my place to tell you to do anything with what you own, thats right maybe I should mind my own business.
It is obviously "no skin off your nose" again that is my point exactly. If I said something as classless as that with no knowledge of what I was talking about I would feel horrible about it and apologize.

like I said both teams are good with good rosters, there will always be some back and forth between Yankee and Sox Fans I have no problem with that but let us leave it about the teams not personal attacks on people. I really did not appreciate this "gentelmen" telling me in essance that I am a bad person for winning a charity auction and wanting to use what I won from it. Even if it was tongue in cheek it is still classless and rude IMHO.
Back to Baseball........The Sox have stunk recently, but I believe we will still have a good year. The Yankees have a good team too and I am sure we will have plenty of good baseball between the two clubs. GO SOX!!
