176 Question

I have been thinking about a 176 or177 but have not been able to see one in person. My question is this - does a 176 or 177 wear "smaller" than other 44mm models. I am wondering this because it seems to me that watches with a matte type finish sometimes appear smaller than a similarly sized watch with a more polished look. Anyone with any thoughts on this? Truth is I would prefer the smaller look but would still like to try something larger than a 40mm. If there are any other recommendations of 44mm Pams that might wear smaller I would love to know. Thanks for any opinions on this.

The titanium is same size as regular luminors but I would opined that they feel about 30% lighter so it wears taper(will not hang) to the wrist and feels more snug. In every panerai collection, there should always be a TI.

Good luck with your choice!

Best,

They look the same to me, but the subtle hue of the brushed titanium is more modest and less blingy hence making it less noticeable - but not necessarily appear smaller. Though it does feel alot lighter!

no, i don't think it "looks" smaller, and, to me, it doesn't weight THAT much lighter, either (mostly b/c i don't think either SS or titanium luminors are particularly heavy).

comes down to personal preference. between all-polished and titanium, i prefer the brighter all-polished to the duller (imo) titanium. ultimately, all-polished was a bit much for me, so, i went brushed case + polished bezel (164).

I use to have a 177 and I have a 312!!
From that I can tell you that the 177 is lighter. But size wise it's the same.

thanks for the help!! I am leaning to the 176. From what I understand some years are painted dial and some sandwich. Is there a specific year or serial when they go from one to the other?

Great choice! I do not find the 177 to wear smaller than my 000, but I do find it to be much more comfortable especially for long periods of time. I also prefer the darker brushed appearance, which gives it a more casual look with the right strap. Perfect PAM for summer!

The painted dial stopped at the 176G series.. so if you still prefer a titanium with a painted dial, there are the 55 and 116 but those, are slightly harder to find and comes at a premium.

Good luck with your decision. Sandwich or painted, both winners.

Best,

Here is a titanium with painted dial in a 118. The brownish tone serves as a great contrast vs. the painted numeral markers:

Those are both GORGEOUS watches. Now I may be leaning toward the 177. Something tells me I can't go wrong. Thanks again for the info!!
