New to Forum, Hello!
Hey everyone, I'm new here, post numero uno. My name is Clay, I live in Chicago, and I have a small watch collection, two of which are Rolexes. I'm looking to add another vintage piece and have a lot of questions, and I thought this would be a great place to start.
Here are the watches I have so far, a 1981 two-tone Datejust that my dad gave me when I graduated college in '99. I wear this watch all the time. I used to think the acrylic crystal looked strange, sitting so high off the bezel, but I've grown to really like it and think it differentiates itself nicely from newer models. I also have a two-tone sub 16613 from '96, purchased a few years ago from a family member. I don't wear this one as much, but it gets a lot of compliments when I do. As I said, I'm looking to expand my collection; specifically I'm looking for a late 70s Vintage Submariner 1680 with as many original parts as possible. I've been doing as much research as possible but though this would be a great place to get some additional information from collectors who are more knowledgeable than I am. Anyway, looking forward to posting on the board, thanks! Clay |

Welcome
The 1680 is a very nice vintage piece a collectors piece if you will these days just because they are not available from the local retail store. Good luck on your endeavours to find that special 1680

Thanks!
Thanks for the welcome everyone!
Steve, I think I'm still getting used to the size and weight of the sub. I've worn the datejust for the past 10+ years and it feels like a part of me. The sub is 50% heavier and I'm just not totally used to it yet. |

Welcome! Looking for a red sub or possibly a "birth year" sub?

Thanks Christiaan, a red sub is a bit out of my price range; a birth year would be nice ('77), but if I come across a nice '79, '80, etc. at a good price, I will definitely consider.
Heh, yea gtb, after the 1680 my name might actually change to clay1655! |

1680 is a good start for vintage collection and quite widely available, actually some would prefer the non-reds nowsdays good luck. And once you have that watch maybe your user name will change to something else like clay1665 lol.
