Allright folks I know you going to think I've lost my marbles, but I decided to take my watch for a regulation as it was losing approximately 2,5 s / day. After a couple days I received info from my AD that a simple regulation would not suffice. They said that the main spring was too strong and had to be replaced. The curious thing was however, that the AD had been informed by Rolex Geneva that there are indeed a lot of watches w/same problem. Go figure..
Well after a two weeks await, I've got the watch back. Oh boy what an accuracy! It loses a second in every 5 days!!

I'd be happy with 2.5 seconds a day. It's within spec.

Yup, I'll go with that.

The mainspring varies from fully wound to unwound - how can it be too strong?

To open a Rolex for a -2.5 to -1.0 second adjustment which might be temporary at best seems OT to me.

Why couldn't the watchmaker get it exactly right?

I do have the same problem with mine! Exactly 2 sec loss / day but I couldn't be bothered sending it back for regulation. I guess it is a matter of preference! I'm glad it worked out for you the way you wanted .

I'll be happy with 2.5 sec a day.... Still within COSC standard. If it is a new watch, the timekeeping may change after it has "broken in" after a couple of months of use.

To each his own...glad it worked out for you.

My 116710 ran 4 sec slow when new , 3 years later its spot on. It was within COSC specs so maybe you could have waited and see what transpired.

thats sounds pretty good!! im currently 20 seconds slow and its about 40days

Have to agree just cannot see for the life of me that anyone would want a watch regulated that was already around 99.998% accurate.And simple regulation could pull a lot more back that 2.5 seconds,and in my 30 odd years of being around Rolex watches never heard of replacing a mainspring because it was too strong but suppose its possible it would cause overbanking.Think some of you guys saying you have a problem that your watch is 2 seconds fast or slow out of 86400 in day must have no idea how a mechanical watch works and perhaps should have bought a quartz.
